Raglans 'White Lightning' by Finn Keenan
David Knight - 26th Sept 2014
With a hint of Vampire Weekend's A-Punk (and even The Monkees) Finn Keenan has orchestrated a number of simple yet fun visual tricks for Irish band Raglans and the enjoyable raucous pop of their White Lightning.
Finn's idea was to recreate some of the basic yet effective FX that came from mucking about with camcorders back in the day. And it just goes to show that they certainly still work, on better cameras.
Do camcorders even still exist...?
FINN KEENAN:
"I wanted to take all the tricks you first tried out on the family camcorder when you were a kid and see if, with a bit of time and effort, and a good song, they could be put together to make a good music video.
"I didn't want people looking at the video saying 'how did they do that trick?' but more 'I remember trying to do that loads as a kid!'. I decided to use a mixture of stop animation and continuous shooting to achieve a nostalgic and fun look.
"The song is a real no nonsense pop song that puts a smile on your face, and I wanted the video to match that honest, fun feel."
