Holly Johnson 'In And Out Of Love' by Chris Shepherd
David Knight - 16th Sept 2014
Legendary Frankie Goes To Hollywood singer Holly Johnson's new single In And Out Of Love - almost 30 years on from Frankie's The Power Of Love – has inspired a heartwarmer of a music video directed by Chris Shepherd focussing on the timeless fun generated by that precursor of the selfie, the photo booth.
Chris brings forth an wildly diverse mix of personalities into that small box for the three and half minute duration of the video: two young sailors mug joyfully mug for the camera. A “stag and hen” party crowds into the booth for some wild shots. A dominatrix shows off the tools of her trade, and a pair of wildly tattooed young men looks at the camera with pride; Holly himself, and many more.
And as Chris explains below, each of his characters has their own tale to tell. In and Out of Love is the second single released from Johnson’s upcoming album Europa.
CHRIS SHEPHERD:
"I wanted to use the photo booth experience as a metaphor for love. When you go in there, you act differently. Through a sneaky kiss or wild behavioUr, we reveal a lot about ourselves.
"Each of the characters we introduce has their own clear backstory, all the way from the soon-to-be bride and her friends to the Alzheimer’s patient and her caregiver. We were able to reveal a lot of aspects of life and age, all within the confines of a photo booth."
