No prizes for guessing what director Chris Turner's favourite colour is, and whilst black might not be the most exciting artistic prospect, his creativity in, and execution of, this video for KT Tunstall's Invisible Empire is wonderful.  

He's scrapped pseudo-futurism or gritty modernity favoured for many music videos for a rather fantastical Arthurian medieval adventure, seeing KT in three different guises - Merlin-esque hooded torchbearer, a crusading knight and noble royalty.  All roles that she performs very well indeed.

There's even some respectable swordplay from the singer-songwriter and in each role she's clad in some excellent attire and make-up from stylist David Hawkins.  Kudos also to DoP Jason Berman's epic beach and forest scenes - this was shot at Bedgebury Forest in Kent and Camber Sands.

Chris might have pulled out all the stops, but he explains that this was not a solo effort...

Favourite Colour: Black (Chris Turner): "Making this video for KT was a truly collaborative project. She had big ideas about how to reflect the emotional content of the song, but she was very much open to my interpretation of her initial concept. 

"It was an interesting and rewarding way of working, with KT's initial brief suggesting a route I wouldn't have naturally thought of on first hearing the song. What I brought to the project was how to realise, visualise and capture the images she'd imagined. 

"Despite the inevitable problems of shooting so much in a single day, I think the fact that KT trusted me to do what I do, that we'd established a clear idea of the intended end result, and finally KT's whole-hearted commitment to the various roles she played in the film, helped make it the most enjoyable project I've done in a long time."
