Gerry & The Pacemakers 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by AJ Colomb

EMI have commissioned a brand new video for Gerry & The Pacemakers’ You’ll Never Walk Alone – produced via The Fyzz Music Video – the production company that specialises in making new videos for classic songs – and directed by Andrea Jade (A.J.) Colomb.
The song has been associated with Liverpool Football Club ever since its release in 1963, and became an iTunes download chart-topper last year, after new facts emerged about the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy, where 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives. And A.J. adopted a documentary approach to the video, stressing the song’s close ties to Liverpool – but the city and it’s people, not just the football club. With a very small crew – with Matthew North as her cameraman – she shot portraits of ordinary Liverpudlians all over the city, and the cumulative impact is impressive.
“We shot around twenty locations around Liverpool in two days,” says AJ. “With a tiny crew and fantastic locals that helped us every step of the way. It was literally shoot and go. If it wasn’t for all the great help along the way from the many friends, casting agents, clubs and so on in Liverpool, this really wouldn’t have been possible.
“Obviously we have some celebs in the mix, but the video is really about the people of Liverpool. And also not only about football – though we did get chased by Everton supporters with a hammer as we were shooting The Hummingbirds scene. It made it very tricky to edit around the scared looks the boys were giving over their shoulders! In saying that, we did have a few Everton supporters who were happy to be involved and even knew the words better than some of the Liverpool supporters!”
