A suburban guru following the path of the Yogi Maharishi may look like a bit of a no-hoper, and an easy target for a couple of bored scallies. But the psychic power of yoga comes to his rescue, in this charming Radar-commissioned video for Dublin band Kodaline's debut EP, directed by Ian Gamester.

This works wonderfully with Kodaline's blissful psychedelia, and Ian Gamester says: "The idea stemmed from the music. To me it sounded just like a slice of late 60s hippy rock music when it went all mystical, like Traffic. I couldn't get that thought out of my head. It wasn't difficult to then make the leap to eastern mysticism."

With the small budget, Ian called on some favours close to home, and he shot this in Liverpool. "Our hero is played by an amateur actor who works for my father's Recycle Warehouse," Ian Gamester explains. "He is called Ian, but is affectionately nicknamed Picasso as he paints and refurbishes the furniture. He had the right look and did a tremendous job." The video even featured Ian's Nan as the old lady guided to safety by the would-be thugs.
"We really liked Ian's script, it was very thorough, with good examples, we felt that if he could pull it off, it would be a really interesting video to grab attention for a new act," said Mark Lewis from B-Unique Records. "We decided to use Radar having always wanted to try it, this seemed an opportune moment with a new band with no previous online profile, and the band are really happy with it." And Ian has now directed the new video for The Chevin's Blue Eyes.
