Laurel Collective 'Jelly Bird' by Crown & Owls

Jimmy Brown - 24th July 2012

Following their promo for Toby Gale, Crown & Owls deliver this high-concept, tribal, surreal affair for Laurel Collective's leftfield rocker Jelly Bird - shot on Red EPIC on location in Yorkshire.

"The video tells the story of an indigenous tribe discovering a spaceman washed up on the shore of a beach" explains Rory from Crown & Owls. "It is revealed that the tribe have in fact been expecting the arrival of an interstellar traveller, but perhaps not this one...

"The idea started with an image of a spaceman being washed up on a beach. Laurel Collective's track struck us as a song about a character in the wrong place at the wrong time, and so we tried to build on this as a context for the spaceman.

"We're all really interested in myths and legends, and really like stories which incorporate the imagery and themes which sit synonymously with such tales. Ancient prophecies, the unknown, the idea of ancient man interacting with extraterrestrials, all of these are big concepts for music videos, but compressing them into a track less than 4 minutes long has been a cool experience for us.

"It may surprise people to learn that the video was shot in Yorkshire. We were really, really lucky with weather and found some great locations which lends itself well to the exotic setting of the story."
