'Big Easy Express' doc with Mumford & Sons, Old Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros by Emmett Malloy
David Knight - 23rd Mar 2012
Big Easy Express, Emmett Malloy's documentary follows a trio of bands - Mumford & Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - on their tour across America via an unusual mode of transport: a historic train, that travels from San Francisco to New Orleans - the Big Easy Express.
The bands climbed aboard amid the railyards of Oakland in April 2011, and set off on a tour of six cities - and Emmett Malloy's film documents the bands' railway adventures; the high canyons, joyous crowds, blasted skies, late-night laughter, endless music - and a train bound for glory.
Big Easy Express was rapturously received on its world premiere, when it closed the SXSW Festival in Austin last Saturday, on March 17th - at least partly because the bands' performance in Austin, where the Mumfords play with the local marching band, is featured in the movie. Details of its theatrical and DVD release to follow...
