Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands’ Wintertime's Doll by Sophie Gateau

David Knight - 28th Feb 2011

A short and perfectly formed RGB-twiddling promo for Patrick Kelleher, shot in the beautiful La Brenne forest in central France by Sophie Gateau.

A short and perfectly formed RGB-twiddling promo for Patrick Kelleher, shot in the beautiful La Brenne forest in central France by Sophie Gateau. It's all based on slightly shifting the timings of the red, green and blue layers that make up a video image - which only effects the composition of things that move within the image. "The decomposition/recomposition of the picture generates pure colours - red, green, blue - and the complementary colors - yellow, magenta and cyan," says Sophie, who's other videos include Get Back Guinozzi's Carpet Madness. "They all create a new colored and poetic pattern, showing the ephemera of things. I really liked Wintertime's Doll and thought it would be a perfect match for my idea, so I asked the band and the label if they would go for it, and they say yes!" It was virtually a singlehanded effort: Sophie shot the video last autumn in La Brenne on a Canon 5D with actor Olivier Riquet, then cut the video and did the post herself on After Effects.
