Yeasayer’s I Remember by Sophia Peer
David Knight - 24th Feb 2011
A veteran biker rides into the desert on his treasured Harley in the video for Yeasayer's I Remember, directed by Sophia Peer. The biker's carrying something important with him - a sculpture of his head - and then things get messy. But this isn't just self-conscious wackiness.
"When looking for a set for this man to exist in, Kings Anvil Ranch in Arizona - where the Minute Men have their target practice - was perfect and solidified my desired location. I couldn't afford to fly anyone out with me so I had never met anyone in the crew until I arrived, and I slept on the floor of the Museum of Contemporary Art to keep the budget light."
Sophia makes video and sound installations that have been shown at various New York galleries, and she's also created work for MTV, Pitchfork and Ghost Robot - and directed videos for Air Waves, Ponytail, Woods, Delicate Steve. And now a memorable and affecting one for Yeasayer.
