Pomp&Clout - the Brooklyn-based design/direction outfit run by Ryan Staake, who recently signed to Trunk in the UK - have created this wonderful mash-up of visuals with an old-fashioned optical vibe, with the help of artist Special Reflection, for the splendid Zoos of Berlin.

It was shot and animated in New Orleans, edited in Brooklyn - with portions rendered in Omaha for some reason. And Pomp&Clout have also created the (very different) mock ad Babyberry, for BBC's Mitchell & Webb Show through Trunk.

Ryan Staake on making the video for Zoos of Berlin's Electrical Way

"This video began with me following Detroit-based Zoos of Berlin on Twitter after an excruciatingly slow download of the song while on inflight wi-fi aboard a plane somewhere above the Midwest. They emailed back within minutes saying they liked my stuff, and by the time I was in a cab from JFK on my way home, we'd agreed to do a video.

"I ended up pulling in a good old friend now going by the name of Special Reflection. We used an unconventional production method he's been experimenting with involving scanning massive amounts of various paper and physical material, and auto-generating 1080p frames from it in Photoshop with custom actions. Shooting took place on location in New Orleans (just before the Deepwater Horizon disaster).

"The loose narrative revolves around fleeting images of a woman, perhaps "one that got away" mixed in with idyllic imagery of nature, and symbolic objects. Ultimately, the scanned was masked into a high contrast version of the shot footage, giving a textural quality to the piece, and somehow still allowing the forms of the footage to be interpreted by the viewers brain - for the most part."
