Emilie Simon’s Dreamland by Asif Mian
David Knight - 8th Sept 2009
The FX work is excellent, the result of Asif's association with 1st Ave Machine since last year (it's also produced commercials and short films, including Rerun, being screened at this year's onedotzero). Lead 3D artist Mike Merron and his team created a lavish banquet complete with live sea creatures and a mysterious dining companion, shrinking rooms, a library tornado and an escalator-like staircase. The video has Emilie roaming the halls of a Victorian mansion, and discovering she faces a different trap within each room. "When I heard the song, I pictured a bearded man in a general's suit," Asif says. "I wanted a historical mansion with a bit of a twist. I originally thought of the general as trying to entice and trap Emilie in a dream, and this led to the mansion itself attempting to trap her. "Throughout the video she is fighting to get out, but as she goes on, she realizes that she has the power to travel through walls and is able to escape."
