Example’s When The Sun Come Up by Henry Scholfield

Jimmy Brown - 3rd Sept 2009

Example and Henry Scholfield team up again for the first time since their fab, MVA-winning video for Me And Mandy last year. This time it might not have qualified for the Best Budget category.

Example and Henry Scholfield team up again for the first time since their fab, MVA-winning video for Me And Mandy last year. This time it might not have qualified for the Best Budget category. Elliot 'Example' Glieve has also shed his winning cheeky-chappy persona (and looks a bit less like Jack Black's tag partner in Nacho Libre) in favour of something more serious and, frankly, lovey-dovey. And Henry weaves Elliot's Ibiza holiday romance and lonely London present skilfully via animation at Partizan Lab. "Elliot (Example) and I have worked together on quite a few videos - actually this was the sixth if you count the first one where we had him running around London dressed as Monkey from the 70's TV show," Henry says. "We had a bit more budget on this one though, which was good. The song is about reminiscing on a holiday romance, so I thought it would be good to set part of the video in Ibiza and part in London and then use animated transitions to convey us back and forth. "The Ibiza shoot was pretty hardcore with us trying to hit as many locations over two long night shoots as possible in order to get across the idea of this couple adventuring around. The girl gave an incredibly energetic natural performance and was a good match for Example... I think all of the male crew fell in love with her just a little bit. "We went for a sketchy style for the animation to match the nostalgic feel of the track. The difficult bit was using frame overlays from the Ibiza shoot to line up the transition shots in the London scene so that we could cut him out of one shot and comp him into the other, but the effect came out well in the end".
