Lost Valentinos’ Serio by Dave Ma

Lost Valentinos’ Serio by Dave Ma

David Knight - 23rd Mar 2009

Like he did with his lovely video for Foals' Olympic Airways, Dave Ma is going wild in the country - in this case the country being Australia.

Like he did with his lovely video for Foals' Olympic Airways, Dave Ma is going wild in the country - in this case the country being Australia. Shot a few months back, Dave - back home in Oz, presumably for the Christmas/summer hols - depicts Sydney outfit Lost Valentinos as shamans in a landscape of swamps, dunes, and creeks, culminating in a drum ritual in a black charred forest. It looks slightly warmer than shooting Foals in the dank British summer - but the redoubtable Ross McLennan was also back in his homeland to shoot this one too. dave ma on making the video for Lost Valentinos' Serio "I knew that I wanted to really utilise the natural landscape for the video because it is so rare to have such a variety of great locations in one place, and I also wanted to create a sense of journey in the video. "Naturally that left us chasing the sun on the shoot day as we moved from one location to the other but is was worth it, and think that the band really felt like they'd accomplished something by the time we wrapped. They were covered in so much black charcoal, paint powder, cuts and bruises and even had to pull off a few leeches when we were in the swamp. "Getting the locations was a lot of fun and Ross and I were lucky to spend a couple of days before the shoot exploring the locations and how they would look at different times of the day. "We basically spent two days walking bush trails and climbing dunes whilst discussing shots and lenses. "We finished both days with a swim in the ocean. Easily the best recce we've both been on."
