Kanye West's Love Lockdown by Simon Henwood
David Knight - 9th Jan 2009
Magisterial news journal TIME magazine has declared Kanye West's Love Lockdown as their Best Song of 2008, describing it as "easily the most interesting pop experiment [of the] year."
Like the song, the video is different to anything Kanye has done before, and like the song it revolves around a clash of cultures - African warriors, representing the Japanese taiko drums on the track, increasingly overwhelm Kanye's western dream home and consciousness. But its still sexy.
Meanwhile for the moment Simon is now returning to his art roots: some of his early paintings are exhibited in the group show Voodoo, which opens at the Riflemakers Gallery in London later this month. And a new book of his work as an artist, magazine publisher and filmmaker is also published soon.
And Kanye has since made the rotoscope-style Heartless video with Hype Williams. Including controversial smoking.
