In his latest foray into directing, Freddie Wright orchestrates a supernatural mystery&nbsp;for alt-rock band Palace's atmospheric&nbsp;When Everything Was Lost.&nbsp;It begins with a young man alone in an apartment, surrounded by coruscating lights and shadows,&nbsp; which&nbsp;slowly reveal ethereal illusions and haunting snapshots of memories. A young woman becomes a distant presence in the house.&nbsp;The young man is eventually&nbsp;transported to a lake, before fighting for a way back to the house -&nbsp;and the girl.&nbsp;The ghost story-cum-horror aesthetic and structure fit&nbsp;perfectly with the music, whilst&nbsp;the ambitious cinematography&nbsp;nd visual effects feel cinematic and inspired throughout.&nbsp;

Harry Law directs a touching promo for Calum Scott's If You Ever Change Your Mind.&nbsp;Employing a choreography-based approach for the visual, the concept revolves around a couple who are on the cusp of breaking up, but drawn back to each other by their connection.&nbsp;We've seen plenty of interpretive choreography in the music video space, but this video ups the ante with seamless practical effects, which sees the dancers contort, balance and float in a way that feels ethereal and poignant.&nbsp;The movement feels inspired and emotional, whilst the intimate cinematography ensures the focus rests on the characters and the beautiful performance section.&nbsp;

Freddie Wright directs a hypnotic promo for Emir&nbsp;Taha.&nbsp;The video for Kalp Çare Arar ('Looking for a remedy') represents&nbsp;an out of body experience, depicting&nbsp;Taha's discomfort and anxiety as he tries to make sense of his disordered feelings.&nbsp;Switching between shots of him sat outside a building and floating in a swimming pool - apathetic and struggling to keep his balance throughout - the abstract vignettes feel very much representative of the lyrics, and allow viewers to project their own ideas and thoughts onto the concept.Like a hazy, drunken night, snapshots of a memory are present, but the whole story is locked away somewhere in the subconscious.&nbsp;

Sophie Jones directs a visual feast for Amber-Simone's Black, No Sugar.&nbsp;Taking its name from the artist's upcoming EP, this video is the first of two live performance promos, with the second part arriving later this year, alongside her next single.&nbsp;A celebration of her Black heritage, Amber-Simone has written a song she believes&nbsp;she needed to hear when she was younger - an anthem for those questioning their validity or beauty.&nbsp;The cinematography takes its cue from the music, the camera darting and swirling one minute, before settling on a still moment in anticipation of ramping back up again. This unexpected and raw movement leans into the authentic nature of the track, and the idea of creating art that might not conform to everyone's expectations, but is true to your own journey.[imgtoken data:1]“With this project, I wanted to take the opportunity to reintroduce myself and show what I’m all about," explains Amber-Simone.&nbsp;"Between now and my last EP a lot has happened and I feel the truest to myself I’ve ever been. Having collaborated with Headie One and Fred again.. on her latest release, FKA twigs has collaborated&nbsp;with director Emmanuel Adjei on the magisterial video for Don't Judge Me - a metaphorical exploration of&nbsp;the experience of being Black and British today.This is&nbsp;a double whammy of two distinct sequences that have their own riveting quality, and then weave together towards the greater message. Like most things created by twigs and Adjei - directors who are working together for the first time -&nbsp;they gradually create&nbsp;an indelible&nbsp;impression.[imgtoken data:1]On the one hand, there is twigs herself, sitting in a chair&nbsp;a grand room in a grand English house. But can she escape what reveals itself to be a gilded cage. Before she can get through the door of the room, unseen forces drag her back to the chair. When she negotiates the door, she only gets so far before flying back to her first position once again. It's a continual struggle, which increasingly calls upon angular choreography as well as wirework.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;And then in a mysterious counter-scenario to twigs's struggles, we are taken into another scene, the details of strange and shocking&nbsp;sculpture, and the people surrounding it. The artwork is Kara Walker's fountain sculpture Fons Americanus, a&nbsp;satirical take on a classic Victorian mode of art, cast in concrete - which has exhibited at the Tate Modern in London. The cast around the sculpture are eminent Black Britons - listed below - who have shared a particular struggle, shaped by&nbsp;cultural, systemic and structural biases,&nbsp;to be who they have become.[imgtoken data:2]"From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over colour, sex, religion, or gender," says Emmanuel Adjei, talking about the theme of The Invisible Oppressor, which has informed the video for Don't Judge Me.&nbsp;"The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?[imgtoken data:3]"In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus'&nbsp;by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."

Chris Ranson directs an impressive live performance video&nbsp;for Labrinth, inspired by the artist's work on the HBO show Euphoria.&nbsp;Taking place in an expansive venue hall, Labrinth performs four tracks in succession, backdropped by a hypnotic LED screen and corruscating laser lights.&nbsp;The buzzing energy of the promo is elevated by DoP Stefan Yap's dreamlike cinematography, rotating and gliding through the space with silky smooth precision.&nbsp;

The ninth and final episode from the Gorillaz' Song Machine series, and arguably Jamie Hewlett and co-directors Tim MCourt and Max Taylor have saved the best to last.If finding Elton John in cartoon form in Episode 7 was a surprise - how about his namesake Leee getting top billing as an angry sea monster, laying waste to a precious piece of Gorillaz history?The video for The Lost Chord is undoubtedly the most spectacular of the nine videos for the Song Machine album, but it is also in keeping with the rest of the series, particularly in exploring the increasing vulnerability of the previously devilish Murdoc. He has definitely met his match here, with the former frontman of 80s pop-soul outfit Imagination playing a chained Neptune-like creature who invades the band's poignant return&nbsp;to a now-desolate Plastic Beach with a momentous temper tantrum.&nbsp;This has been a brilliant series. As a body of work its as as good as anything in the Gorillaz canon. It's a real achievement by a consistent team of animators who have worked throughout the series. And the comic genius of Jamie Hewlett is still a bit underrated.&nbsp;&nbsp;
