Leona Lewis 'Love Bird' by Trudy Bellinger

Three days in the Spanish desert shooting choppers chasing Porsches and motorbikes... with two videos at the end of it. It can only be Jay Kay - and for this kind of thing, you hardly need to look to anyone other than Howard Greenhalgh. 
Jay Kay supplied all the toys from his personal collection - including the helicopter, flown by the former cat in the hat himself. But the whole thing was er, helicop-tastic with Howard allegedly hanging out of one chopper, action hero style, with his D7 shooting down at the other chopper that was hovering above a Porsche doing donuts. 
The helicopter/Porsche chase is not surprisingly the focus of White Knuckle Ride, while Jay takes to his bike for the surprisingly reflective Blue Skies - and there's still time for him to return to his Huey for the coda.

VV Brown meets HB Brown, and they go to town with the outfits.
On a distinctly martial theme as it happens. In fact, it looks like they raided 'Military Uniforms, early to late 19th century' room at the V&amp;A for this one. That'll be Harvey drawing upon his fashion masters degree again...

Harvey on the making of....
"I love VV's music, not just her own material but also the stuff that she has written for other people. She wrote Denial for the Sugababes - and I shot the video. Game Over is about being strong and standing up for yourself when a relationship is going bad, and if you are going to call the shots like that we agreed that you have to look FIERCE!
"We both have a serious interest in fashion, and that was the thrust of the video. We wanted to create some amazing couture looks (on a budget... as always) and so we had to be very creative about materials.
"I had a fantastic close-knit team - myself, VV Brown, the amazing stylist Susie Coulthard and the help of award winning lettering artist Alison Carmichael. We also were lucky enough to be able to borrow some pieces from an artist called Walter Rafe (Walterworks) who makes clothes out of everyday objects.
"We ended up making things from paper and fake hair and sellotape as well as using vintage pieces for Alison to write all over. Luckily VV Brown is the kind of artist who can work a paper bag into a hot look. The fabrics were deliberately chosen to translate nicely on film, like rubber and scrunched cellophane.
"Making VV a soldier or even as strong as a 9ft brick wall. Strength was always fused with beauty, and even vulnerability (that was the thinking behind the ballerina outfit with one shoe). The choreography and post were kept simple and were used to give the sense that VV Brown is a one woman army marching on a mission.
"The shoot day consisted of lots of quick changes, a lot of rushing and drama, and then the pressure of getting each outfit shot in one or two takes before moving on. Adrian Wilde and his crew would be setting up the lighting for the next shot and then VV would appear in her new amazing outfit making an entrance from behind her changing screen. Each new outfit was met with applause and wolf whistles really creating that fashion show vibe."

Shelly has recently joined Crossroads Films for music videos and commercials (and repped by OBmanagement) and she went to the Post Factory to execute her Lost Boys-style eye-headlight effect.

Tommy Sparks’ Miracle by Shelly Love

Trudy's new one for new pop cutie Pixie Lott is a big production number, featuring a whole new dance craze.
Which sort of hurts, as she explains below.

"This song has an infectious clap that runs throughout and I wanted to visually reference the clapping and embellish it as the unique hook of the video.
"As this is Pixie's debut video it was important for the label to show off all her incredible talents - she is stunning, and a brilliant dancer. I wanted the choreography to really stand out as being fresh and different. The clapping was the obvious starting point to create a fusion of pat-a-cake, capoeira and physical theatre. In order to achieve this fusion of styles, I worked with two choreographers: Paul Roberts for his slick sharpness, and Kate Pearson for her innovative physical theatre.
"The fusion really worked, and after two days of intense rehearsals we had an amazingly tight piece, although we had problems with the twenty dancers being covered in bruises! In order to get the attitude across and the intensity with the choreography they really had to slap each other. We had to change the styling to hide all the bruises, particularly on the thighs.
"The concept was also brought about by the lyrics, which are about sneaking out in the night and getting up to no good without your parents knowing. The idea of her crawling through her bed into this other world made it fantastical and gave me creative licence to have a few surreal elements. The bed scene was made up of thirty or so mattresses inside a tent of giant silk. The light was amazing, and once inside the bed set it felt so calming and peaceful. This serenity really reflects in Pixie's performance in this section.
"Through a door in the bed we see Pixie and the girls arrive through a locker into a locker room where they start to prepare themselves for the clap off. I shot at MC Motors and as this location is used a lot, I didn't want it to look like other videos but liked the textures and the structure. We built a locker room with a leopard print floor, a boudoir/girls cloakroom with a pink perspex floor, leopard print drapes and a circular red leather pouffe.
"The contrast of the hot pink next to the red brought a contemporary fashion edge to the video. Using red and pink neons sewn together with lots of pipes and industrial props, the main dance area was transformed into a more power station or factory feel with a club edge creating an exciting backdrop to the clap off.
"Denzil Armour lit it and Sam Brown did second unit, whilst Mark Adcock shot Bolex enabling me to get coverage of the six sets and choreography in one day. The drama of the clap-off was created shooting at 100fps and speed ramping and jump cutting. And Ducati supplied all the bikes for the guys as well as Pixie's white one, which we added her logo to."

Pixie Lott’s Mama Do by Trudy Bellinger

Depeche Mode covered by The Saturdays might be a hard pill to swallow, even if it is for Comic Relief. But this will sweeten the pill considerably: a very well executed take on the classic 1940s pin-up style by Harvey Bertram-Brown and his team.
And as Harvey point out below, the look is quite timely. What's more, the Saturday girls wear that austerity- chic lingerie at least as well as Katy whatsherface. And you can always turn the volume down.

"Taking influence from artists like Gil Evgren and Alberto Vargos, I set about creating the ultimate pin up video for Comic Relief. Traditionally the pin up girl was a symbol of hope, a moral boost to the boys away from home and an antidote to the depression of the 1930's and 40's. Her glowing skin and perfect airbrushed form were deliberately designed to lift the spirits and make us smile. So, with five beautiful girls and a song designed to bring 'comic relief' and raise money at the brink of our recession, it felt like the perfect fit.
"The video was great fun to make. The challenge was to keep it "cheesecake", light and provocative without getting too sexy. The styling and the attitude had to be just right and we spent hours in front of the mirror together practicing poses. Every time we struck a wrong pose one of us would shout out "hoochy" (or other quotes from America's Next Top Model and Project Runway!)
"The girls are wonderful to work with and a lot of the good humour on set was kept in the video - Rochelle falling off her chair, Vanessa banging her head as well as the pranks the crew pulled on Una and Frankie by chucking popcorn at them or bombarding them with red noses.
"The art direction and styling were kept firmly in a strict colour palette, but the look really came together in the TK. We made the colours even more flattened and painterly, and then finished the look off with sharpened highly contrasted black tones.
"The final look was to make the images to feel printed on Calendars, and each image is even signed by each of the girls in homage to the original pin up artists of the time."

The Saturdays’ I Just Can't Get Enough by Harvey Bertram-Brown

It's pop, but just like Trudy's vid for Sexy No No No, that palette of red and black gives the fantasy an almost noir-ish edge - accentuated by those mirrored rooms. And things do get broken.
