Dappy pays homage to&nbsp;life before&nbsp;fame, in&nbsp;Labi Odebunmi's cinematic short film for Intro.&nbsp;Touching upon how artists juggle their music careers and personal life, the autobiographical narrative depicts a young Dappy going through life in Camden, navigating the various challenges and roadblocks along the way.&nbsp;Odebunmi cleverly contrasts lavish performance setups with grittier, authentic vignettes from the streets, highlighting the hustle that got the artist to where he is today.&nbsp;Each character in the story is brilliantly cast, encompassing the emotional rollercoaster of the journey, while&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Arran Green matches the high-energy concept with stylised lighting and handheld camera movement.&nbsp;

Fenn O’Meally explores&nbsp;musical obsession in her charming promo for Texas ft. Wu-Tang Clan.&nbsp;The film features&nbsp;Kadeem Ramsay - well known for his recurring role in Top Boy, and also in Steve McQueen anthology Small Axe - as Myles, an obsessive Texas and Wu-Tang fan. After seeing their legendary joint performance at the 1998 Brit Awards, he’s spent the last 15 years collecting merch and memorabilia of the two, whilst plotting ways to bring this monumental collaboration back. The film follows Myles’&nbsp;obsession with the ultimate music collaboration and his hope that they will, one day, reunite.O’Meally&nbsp;injects humour and effortless charisma into the project, while employing a clever split narrative.&nbsp;Lensed by Molly Manning Walker, the use of authentic, docu-style shots helps build a sense of character and narrative, whilst the more experimental footage brings a jolt&nbsp;of youthful energy to the overall concept.&nbsp;The production design and art direction are top-notch, cleverly portraying a sense of celebrity obsession, without going overboard into parody territory. It's a film with a big heart, and looks like it was just as fun to make as it is to watch.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

Otis Dominique and Ellington Hammond co-direct this celebration of Black lives, for Jorja Smith's By Any Means, the lead release of Roc Nation's&nbsp;Reprise project, comprised of multiple artists uniting to let their voices be heard in musical protest.Working with producer Precious Mahaga and DoP Joel Honeywell, the video is a breathtaking series of photojournalistic&nbsp;portraits documenting the breadth of the Black British experience, intercut with Jorja Smith's performance of By Any Means. Conceived by Jorja Smith and Hammond, her longtime collaborator, London-based Dominique joined to co-direct when it was clear that the American photographer and filmmaker would not be able to travel to the UK for the shoot.[imgtoken data:1]The first of a three day shoot was spent on the performance, shot at Jorja's home, in a more visually crafted set-up. That was followed by two whirlwind&nbsp;days shooting their documentary subjects, the first in various locations in London; the second in Luton, Birmingham and Walsall - Jorja Smith's hometown. The result is extraordinary - an extensive authentic snapshot of a nation.[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;&nbsp;"We went all over the place, and when we couldn't make to everyone's homes, we had people come to meet us halfway," says Precious Mahaga, who like other crew members recruited family members to appear in the video. "In fact, Alice Dearing, the only Black member of the Great Britain swimming team, came all the way from Manchester and met us at my mum's house in Luton."[imgtoken data:3]They finished the shoot in Walsall, where Jorja Smith's cousin acted as unofficial casting agent, bringing together members of the community to appear in what turned out to be the final part of the video - an impromptu gathering, welcoming Jorja back home. "Our last shot was at Jorja's cousin's house - he phoned up a lot of people,"&nbsp;recalls Mahaga. "Jorja was there to sing the song, and she became really too emotional at that point to perform with everyone there."&nbsp;[imgtoken data:4]Jorja Smith has commented:&nbsp;“The inspiration behind ‘By Any Means’ really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, what can I do to keep this conversation going? It’s not just a post on social media, it’s life.”A statement from Roc Nation adds: “This collection of songs was compiled with hopes to bring awareness to social justice issues. Jacob Anderson's latest outing as musical alter ego&nbsp;Raleigh Ritchie has prompted this thought-provoking&nbsp;video for new track Aristocrats, directed by Anderson himself.&nbsp;It is a family portrait through British history, that switches through different time periods through appropriate costumes,&nbsp;from the times of the Crusades, to Victorian times and the 1960s. But in Aristocrats, this great British family are black, as Anderson laments the one-sided teaching of British history, switching out the&nbsp;overwhelmingly white British aristocracy with a more diverse set of characters.Switching between periods, the barriers between the periods begin to break down.&nbsp;As the camera draws closer to Raleigh,&nbsp;these scenes become more confused and&nbsp;mixed up&nbsp;- a manifestation&nbsp;of the artist's frustration at being served up a skewed version of history.Through motion control,&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Joel Honeywell&nbsp;utilises simple tracking shots to bring the focus to the characters and costumes, punctuated by exaggerated closeups as the concepts builds towards its frenetic and haunting climax. Editor&nbsp;Jo Lewandowska cleverly intercuts the different setups to create seamless transitions, with the switch-up in pace in the final few moments a genius balance of tension and emotion.&nbsp;

Grime videos don&#39;t usually get labelled as being charming, but Labi Odebunmi&#39;s video for Unknown T deserves that description.The video for Throwback taps into the nostalgic theme of the song, with T reminiscing about growing up in Hackney, East London, back in the day.It&#39;s all sparked off when a puzzled young relative of his finds his very old Sony Erickson phone. Then we head back to 2003, with T as a primary school age kid, messing around with his mates on the bus, having his first crush. Then it&#39;s later on, in 2009, when he&#39;s a more streetwise teenager.The &#39;period detail&#39; is very good,&nbsp;with lots of Noughties-generation cultural touches. It&#39;s also nicely shot by Arran Green, employing different ratios to establish the different time periods. Clearly a lot of heart, soul and smart production work has gone into this. Very good work by director&nbsp;Labi and his team.&nbsp;
