Mark Thomas of the Soup Collective has assembled a stellar cast of mainly Mancunian luminaries to create this pitch-perfect accompaniment to a tribute to the man they called Mr Manchester - Factory Records founder Tony Wilson.The track&nbsp;was created when&nbsp;poet Mike Garry brought his poem&nbsp;about Wilson, who died after a long illness in Manchester&rsquo;s Christie Cancer Hospital&nbsp;in 2007,&nbsp;to&nbsp;composer and New Order and Elbow collaborator&nbsp;Joe Duddell.&nbsp;On the first read, Duddell immediately heard elements of New Order&rsquo;s Your Silent Face&nbsp;and decided to base the music on that song. &lsquo;St. Anthony: An Ode To Anthony H Wilson&rsquo; was born.Mark Thomas reveals the accompanying video has been a year in the making, squeezed in between other projects, and in the process the Soup Collective have filmed numerous friends and associates of Wilson&#39;s simply lipsyncing the song&#39;s lyrics: including&nbsp;Steve Coogan (who played Wilson in the 2003 movie 24 Hour Party People), Bernard, Gillian and Stephen from New Order, Christopher Eccleston, Iggy Pop, Shaun Ryder, Peter Saville, Richard Madeley, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Terry Christian,&nbsp;Paul Morley, Mark Radcliffe, Rowetta, John Robb, Rowetta, John Cooper Clarke, Miranda Sawyer, Andrew Weatherall, and Philip Glass.&nbsp;The video shows the still-abiding love and respect for Wilson, eight years after his death, and all profits from the single, released today (August 14th), with artwork by Peter Saville and a remix by Andrew Weatherall, will go to Christies Cancer Hospital in Manchester.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is also&nbsp;website, designed by Retro Fuzz, at <a href="http://www.saint-anthony.co.uk/" target="_blank">saint-anthony.co.uk</a>, which allows the visitor to explore the places, people and stories which make up the lyrics - helping to see the full picture of Wilson&rsquo;s impact.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It started with the video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/02/03/elbow-new-york-morning-mark-thomas-and-mat-norman" target="_blank">New York Morning</a>, continued with My Sad Captains&nbsp;and <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/07/25/elbow-real-life-mark-thomas" target="_blank">Real Life</a> - and now&nbsp;Mark Thomas of SoupCo Production in Manchester has created the fourth and final documentary portrait to accompany a track from the current Elbow album The Take Off and Landing of Everything.&nbsp;This one, for Charge, follows the same pattern - the spoken words of the subjects appear in on-screen subtitles - as Elbow perform Charge. And here this technique has an additional impact. This is a film that follows two generations of speedway riders&nbsp;from Manchester&#39;s legendary Belle Vue Aces. And the words on screen emphasise the connections between the two riders, and the enduring thrill of the sport. It is tremendously watchable, and like the others, elevated by the music of Elbow.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Mark Thomas and SoupCo have been longtime collaborators with Elbow. But over the course of these four mini-documentaries, they have created a very special body of work.

The video for Elbow&#39;s New York Morning is directed by Mark Thomas and Mat Norman of Manchester-based Soup Collective and was, suitably enough, shot in New York City. It&#39;s also a thoroughly heartwarming short doc about a New York&nbsp;couple called Dennis and Lois, that&#39;s been years in the making.Dennis and Lois, are a&nbsp;late-middle aged couple who were brought together by their similar enthusiasm for punk rock, have turned their house into a shrine of musical memorabilia, and who have made friends with&nbsp;bands across musical generations&nbsp;(Mark E Smith, no less, has described them as &quot;caring, sharing Americans&rdquo;)&nbsp;This film began some ten years ago, when Mark and Mat,&nbsp;working respectively with Elbow and Doves on a joint tour of the US, met Dennis and Lois, who were doing merchandise for Doves.&nbsp;With a shared feeling that there was a story to tell, they began filming the couple whenever work brought them near to New York.Years later, and many hours of footage from staying at Dennis and Lois&#39;s house, Mark and Mat started exploring the right format for the project - and that&#39;s when Elbow with whom Mark has a longstanding relationship, got involved.&nbsp;The result is partly a&nbsp;music doc - an alternative history of New York punk rock, CBGBs and everything - partly a love story. Lovely stuff.&nbsp;
