Astrid Edwards, director and producer of music videos and other music programming for three decades, is still mixing things up.&nbsp;&nbsp;She has just been <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/news/2020/11/26/63rd-grammy-award-nominations-beyonc%C3%A9-nominated-best-music-video-and-best-music-film/68206" target="_blank">nominated for a Grammy</a>, for her part in producing the spectacular Beyoncé video for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRFS0MYTC1I&amp;feature=emb_title" target="_blank">Brown Skin Girl</a>. By complete contrast, her video for Cornershop's I'm A Wooden Soldier is a real DIY effort: she directed, produced,&nbsp;animated, edited the video herself - and features in it too.&nbsp;The work&nbsp;is inspired by the cut-and-paste aesthetic of Sniffin' Glue and other fanzines of the punk rock era. With the help of designer Sim Tennant, Edwards uses stock footage and stop-frame collage animation to make&nbsp;the link&nbsp;between the politically-charged atmospheres of&nbsp;late 70s and today, to accompany a&nbsp;characteristic anthem&nbsp;from Cornershop's acclaimed album England Is A Garden, released earlier this year.[imgtoken data:1]

Roisin Murphy has created a proper disco banger in Narcissus, and she has also directed the video for the track which channels the fabulously kitsch glamour of the original Age of Disco.Roisin's love of the Italian 'Queen of TV'&nbsp;Raffaella Carrà, led her to make a&nbsp;fairly faithful&nbsp;recreation of a '70s disco-era performance from her TV show - which has benefitted from&nbsp;added layers&nbsp;of 70s-style video FX.Roisin always keeps within the parameters of a TV-like live performance in real time. But due to a combination of her distinctive charisma,&nbsp;and a brilliant edit by Ben Unwin, this becomes something more than its inspiration. It's an altogether&nbsp;more transcendent experience.&nbsp;It's out there, it's very Roisin, and it's amazing.&nbsp;And,&nbsp;let's face it, right now we need a brilliant song and a video like this.
