Sel Maclean's video for indie artist Lizzie Esau crafts a compassionate look at the landscape of isolation and depression through narrative and performance.Maclean focusses upon a young man (played by Aaron&nbsp;Markwell) trapped in a cycle of dysfunction, a cinematic counterpoint to the shoegazey tone of the track Day In The Life. Then his world splits from gritty reality, when Lizzie Esau becomes his companion, the observer of his situation.&nbsp;&nbsp;"Day In The Life explores the mental landscape of isolation and depression, where intrusive thoughts are amplified through the megaphone of loneliness, trapping us within our own echo chamber," says Maclean.&nbsp;"It traces the fault line between solitude and despair, revealing how each quietly sustains the other in a cycle that feels both invisible and unbreakable."[imgtoken data:1]

Mike Lee Thomas directs a stunning film, where tensions in a rural community builds to a terrifying climax, for singer songwriter John Edgar&nbsp;aka The Dawdler.The video for&nbsp;Skipping Down the Road&nbsp;was created as part of a photography, print, and film exhibition at newly established gallery Arena, to celebrate the music of Newcastle-based musician The Dawdler and raise money for MSTrust.Shot in the North East of England and the West Coast of Scotland, the video explores the themes that John approached when writing the track,&nbsp;during his diagnosis with MS. It also explores our relationships with the world at present and the idea that regardless of the situations we find ourselves in, there is always beauty to be found.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;The black and white&nbsp;palette and filmic textures - this is beautifully shot by DoP&nbsp;Kyle Heslop - lend a cinematic quality to the project, which builds to a nightmarish climax and leaves a lingering sense of dread.&nbsp;"When I was writing Skipping Down The Road,&nbsp;I had just read The Book Thief&nbsp;by Markus Zusak and Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five," the artist mentions.&nbsp;"Both books contain air raids, and the track explores the moments before a city is destroyed by bombs."&nbsp;These references are explored in an abstract, emotive way, and give the video a sense of profound fear right up to the explosive ending.&nbsp;

Sel Maclean directs an evocative promo for Callum Pitt.&nbsp;Opening with a character lying on-stage with (presumably)&nbsp;one of Cupid's arrows poking out of his chest, it soon transitions into an interpretive dance between him and another dancer.&nbsp;Pitt is up on the balcony watching over the performance, providing the soundtrack to the emotional piece of theatre, as the couple build to a stirring climax.&nbsp;The result is a charming video with a light, positive energy, that suits the track perfectly.&nbsp;

Krishna Muthurangu and&nbsp;Kit Monteith co-direct an absorbing&nbsp;promo for Mykki Blanco, featuring legendary singer-songwriter Michael Stipe&nbsp;of REM fame.&nbsp;The video for Family Ties&nbsp;complements&nbsp;the narrative in the track, following Blanco's ex-boyfriend as he tries to help his father,&nbsp;who is suffering with mental health issues.&nbsp;The black and white, coastal aesthetic perfectly suits the concept, highlighting the isolating nature of trying to help someone close to you who is going through something difficult, both from Blanco and the boyfriend character's perspective.&nbsp;The intermittent performance sections have a similarly sombre mood, and explore the contrast of solitude versus freedom. Both Blanco and Stipe's performances are restrained - the former&nbsp;in a small area of the house, and the latter appearing on a vintage television set - and this elevates the themes of the concept.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sel Maclean directs an evocative promo for Newcastle-based rock band Pit Pony.&nbsp;The video for Supermarket follows a character who recollects a fond memory, leading her to start fantasizing and reliving the night. As her recollections become more and more vivid, her feelings become entangled in a messy dose&nbsp;of nostalgia.The distorted soundscapes are matched with chaotic cinematography, which builds to a warped blend of strobing&nbsp;lights, quick-cut edits and oversaturated colour, which matches the dreamlike mood of the concept.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"The main goal with this video was to match the flow and increasing pace of the song through a combination of slow and fast cuts as well as a heavy emphasis on using lighting transitions to delve in and out of our character’s mind," explains Sel Maclean.&nbsp;"The energy of the song builds and builds for a long time on a bed of continuous heavy guitar sounds. The layered soundscape of these heavy distorted sounds creates a beautiful chaos of mood and emotions which was really important to represent visually and emotionally."Overall, with quite strict logistical and budget limitations we had to be creative in how we told the story. Having a really creative and collaborative team meant that there were plenty of ideas and workarounds to obstacles we faced on the day."

To escape the misery and disappointment&nbsp;of reality, Jango Flash - that's North Shields-based musician-producer&nbsp;Jack Angus Golightly -&nbsp;attempts to live out his childhood dream of being an astronaut, in Matthew Willson's charming promo for Perseid 45.&nbsp;Blasting off in a cardboard rocket, with an inflatable sex doll for a co-pilot - bearing a passing resemblance to his ex-girlfriend - Jango heads for the stars. It’s a tale of loneliness, escapism and childlike imagination.A passion project for director Willson, producer&nbsp;Sel Maclean and Golightly, the production embraced the same DIY approach present in the story itself. Relying heavily on favours and recycled resources, the video was shot on a super modest budget, while&nbsp;never sacrificing the quality of the ambitious story they set out to tell.&nbsp;
