One Small Step

A suit goes walking in the jewel of Stoke Newington, Abney Park Cemetery, in the dead of night - no, not a City boy, just the suit - in this very enjoyable comedy-horror by One Small Step's new signings Tactful Cactus.
This three-man collective are Dan Blacker, Matt Bowron and John Addis who combine backgrounds in 3D modelling, online, editing and production. And their FX work on singer-songwriter Jon Allen's haunted whistle is very good indeed.

Firstly, in the vein of their video for Black Moth Super Rainbow's <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2009/05/19/black-moth-super-rainbow%E2%80%99s-dark-bubbles-by-radical-friend/">Dark Bubbles</a> came the interactive trailer to Kirby and Julia aka Radical Friend's new video for psychedelic disco-pop weirdies Yeasayer. 
Move your mouse and you activate a 360º camera to explore selected scenes - and mouse-investigation is encouraged by the fact that all the boys and girls are butt-naked (in an early Seventies rock album cover kind of way).
Which still doesn't quite prepare you for the full gorgeous oddness of the video itself: a hooded glass-faced horseman and drummer in the desert; bandmembers emerging from primordial ooze with detachable faces; more hooded glass-faced men boxing; and, of course, the nudists heading for that shimmering pod in the desert. 
Amazing location (which Dan Kreeger at One Small Step describes intriguingly as a "top secret volcano" on private land outside LA), beautifully shot (by Kevin Phillips), and brilliantly wacky.

Interactive action for Black Moth Super Rainbow by Radical Friend. You can quite literally play the Almighty, and determine the time of day or night with a sweep of the mouse, or indeed in the webcam version, your hand.
All as trampolinist Nate Cole bounces away to the groovy sound of BMSR (a band who have been vocodering for a lot longer than Kanye) in his groovy outfit. See if you can make it colour-spangle. Always a pleasure to see Joel Trussell's work. Joel does proper old-fashioned cartoons, has a beautiful and distinctive style, and his narrative sensibility is just way off the radar. 
This recent video for Morcheeba is a weird and wonderful thing: the naughty animal gang are confronted by the creepy ghost crew at the graveyard on the hill, with a decidedly unexpected outcome.
