In a 20th anniversary celebration of Christina Aguilera's classic ballad Beautiful, Fiona Jane Burgess delves into what is plaguing the youth of today in a series of striking tableaux that focus on the threat of social media and 'influencer' culture on the wellbeing of the impressionable young.The video starts with a series of children blankly staring at their phones, their eyes lit up by their phone screens. Burgess brings each character’s insecurity to life as the camera pans from different perspectives. Young girls stare at themselves in the mirror, covered in cosmetic surgery incision lines, not convinced by the song’s powerful lyrics.&nbsp;But ultimately, as with Aguilera's classic song, this is ultimagely a message of hope.&nbsp;The video ends with a powerful shot of kids playing hopscotch and climbing trees. It is a reminder that should be instilled in every child; it’s okay to just be a kid.[imgtoken data:1] FIONA JANE BURGESS:“This film is a love letter to young people in 2022. It’s an acknowledgement of the fact that social media has totally transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn, our mental health."Young people are constantly fed images of unrealistic beauty standards, and with more images and influencers than ever circulating online, it’s virtually impossible to control what information young people consume. This in turn has created an online world which can be as positive as it is volatile. This film explores the tension between progression versus regression in terms of beauty standards and how our cultural relationship to it has evolved in the last twenty years, specifically in relation to the impact it’s having on children and young people.[imgtoken data:2]<blockquote>My hope is that this film opens up a conversation around... images and messages children are consuming.</blockquote>"Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues and disordered eating in teens. According to emergency room trends, there’s been a 50% increase in reported self-injury among teenagers since 2009."According to a paper published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, more than half of girls and one-third of boys ages 6 to 8 are unhappy with their body weight. And more than 80 percent of 10-year-olds are afraid of being “fat.” This is heartbreaking. This needs to change. A love letter, a signal for change in the way we perceive beauty. My hope is that this film opens up a conversation around the potential harm associated with what images and messages children are consuming, if it’s not spoken about and discussed."I think a lot of children and young people feel suffocated by the online world but don’t know if they’re alone in feeling this way, so for me this film is about acknowledging that they aren’t alone, that it’s normal to have insecurities and to try to have a balanced view of social media and not let it dictate the way we think of ourselves.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Madeline Clayton directs a poignant promo for US-based Australian singer-songwriter&nbsp;Indigo Sparke.&nbsp;The video for Pressure In My Chest depicts&nbsp;Indigo trapped inside her bedroom - a person's most intimate space to dream, rest, grieve, and make love.&nbsp;The artist and director worked with movement director and choreographer Robert Vail, who facilitated the creation of a space for the artist to use her body as another instrument for storytelling. The movement and expression in the music video are emotional rather than choreographed, intuitive and improvised.The concept is a stirring, intimate study of the artist, without the shield of glossy filters or supporting characters, which creates a very raw, vulnerable vibe.&nbsp;“Creating this music video with Indigo was born out of our interest and exploration of an artist grappling with her own emotional and mental suffering and how complex that relationship can be," says Madeline Clayton."When I first heard Pressure In My Chest I was just blown away by the stoicism that came from a woman speaking quite vulnerably about her emotional turmoil, anxiety, and mental health. I really wanted to create a music video for Indigo that showcased her strength as a woman and as an artist and her unique perspective and relationship with her mental health.”

Filip Nilsson is back with a characteristically off-the-wall, high-octane adventure for Kavinsky's latest release.&nbsp;Putting a playful twist on the idea of cameos, a large crowd of fearless stunt-people - all dressed as the artist -&nbsp;are seen running amok in an abandoned horse-racing arena.&nbsp;Clashing in a mesmerising display of&nbsp;ultraviolent choreography, we see each character grapple in a fight to the death - with some breathtaking stunts along the way. Oh, and there are lasers aplenty, giving a sci-fi twist to the action-packed concept.&nbsp;Brilliantly brutal and epic, the use of FPV drones and frenetic camerawork adds an extra layer of madness to the project. Kasper Häggström creates a brilliantly absurd satire for this&nbsp;previously unreleased Radiohead track.​A spectacularly surreal&nbsp;premise is delivered in the Norwegian&nbsp;director's&nbsp;characteristically precise and measured fashion&nbsp;-&nbsp;people in suits are standing in fields, moors and woods - like grazing animals - being rounded-up&nbsp;by a trio of&nbsp;farm hands. And this leaves the viewer plenty of room to ponder the significance&nbsp;and symbolism of&nbsp;they are witnessing.[imgtoken data:1]Ultimately, it turns out that these creatures are being returned to what would be regarded as their natural habitat - a timely comment on the post-lockdown moment and rush back to 'normality'. But by this point you may be sighing with relief.Radiohead have taken Häggström into a darker level of comedy&nbsp;than&nbsp;we have seen in his previous videos, which is a fascinating development. He looks like a very good match for the great alt-rock&nbsp;band.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A man (Michael Sheen) and his futile efforts to make toast.Kasper Häggström has a brillant central concept in his latest video for Kelly Lee Owens: a moment when something that we can always rely upon happening, does not happen. Fortunately, he has one of the greatest&nbsp;screen actors&nbsp;to bring this concept to life.&nbsp;This is the third collaboration between Welsh DJ producer Kelly Lee Owens and the Norwegian director. The previous two have been marvellous (and include a UKMVA winner), but the combination of Häggström, Owens and another Welsh legend John Cale on Corner Of My Sky, and the brilliant Michael Sheen takes&nbsp;this to the next level of surreal joy.&nbsp;

Vintage and contemporary fashion collide in the concept, a glimpse into the unique world Landsvik and Muñoz have created.Not following a strict narrative, we follow the artist in his day-to-day life as he hangs out with a girl, plays music in beautiful locations and takes on a contender at table tennis.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Andreas Bjørseth brings a nostalgic, editorial style to the cinematography, with a soft and dreamy aesthetic that runs throughout the video.&nbsp;

Eivind Landsvik directs a charming tale of first love, in the video for Boy Pablo's Hey Girl.&nbsp;Aesthetically reminiscent of&nbsp;indie comedy Napoleon Dynamite, the world on-screen is an idyllic vision of teenage life.&nbsp;A narrator introduces the characters - many of whom&nbsp;have been previously showcased in other videos -&nbsp;as well as giving a little bit of exposition in terms of backstory and their motivation. Before long, a football match ensues and Boy Pablo frontman Nicolas Muñoz wins both the match and the girl of his dreams.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Andreas Bjørseth dives into nostalgic colour palettes and textures, paying homage to teen movies of the 80s and 90s in terms of composition and style, whilst simultaneously adding his own fresh contemporary twist.&nbsp;

But when she dons the goalminder gear, and the track kicks in, Susy comes into her own.Karlstad - nominated at this year's UKMVAs for his <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/05/23/sludge-blacksmith-kenneth-karlstad/58815" target="_blank">grimly&nbsp;dark video for Sludge</a> - turns attention to the visceral appeal of an ice hockey match, which is as fastmoving and violent as any men's game. It's an unexpected shift, that works superbly with&nbsp;the Norwegian electronic&nbsp;pop outfit's Maybe In The Summer. And great camerawork that delivers the action from different perspectives - including Suzy's.

This is a problematic and disturbing video for Heavyweight Records&#39; newest recruits&nbsp;Sludge by Norwegian director Kenneth Karlstad.We are introduced to Sludge as the leader of an Eastern Europe Cold War-esque extremist gang &ndash; complete with skinhead rituals and a very suspect lemonade drink &ndash; whose mission is to control and manipulate his disciples with his music. Trouble is, despite obvious comedic elements, there is really no way of knowing that isn&#39;t the real Sludge.With the worrying rise of the Far Right across Europe, seems like a strange choice for subject matter&nbsp;for a proper music video.
