Metronomy relive their teenage years&nbsp;in Juliet Casella and Thibaut Caesar's warmly nostalgic video for Things Will Be Fine.&nbsp;Band frontman Joseph Mount describes the video as “a sort of pseudo role-play therapy session in which we all re-visit our teenage selves.” And as such the five bandmembers each have their own well-observed vignette, recreating the byegone age of the late Nineties/early Noughties, reflecting on some of their childhood ambitions and dreams.&nbsp;So we see Metronomy revisit&nbsp;old social media platforms (on a first-gen iMac), first-time attempts at shaving, saving a guinea pig on the loose, and suffering from teen ennui - all unfolding within the same house. It's glued together by a band performance, which also has the feel of&nbsp;a teen band try-out, in the living room.[imgtoken data:1]With a&nbsp;concept that flows directly from the song's lyrics, the video delivers on bringing those themes to life in way that's pitch-perfect for the band. The art direction and set design are top-notch, as are&nbsp;the performances. It makes for a memorable, charming video - and&nbsp;confirms a fairly evident fact that Metronomy are a marvellous video band.But apparently, making this video did take its toll.&nbsp;Joseph Mount concludes: “Everyone ended up more scarred than they did before making it - apart from Michael [Lovett] and his fucking guinea pigs.” And that's that.&nbsp;

Directing duo Meeks + Frost bring together an all-star line-up of talent in this&nbsp;special celebration&nbsp;of UK producer&nbsp;Swindle's latest album The New World - including the performance of six tracks from the album - filmed at the lavish Christ Church Hall in Spitalfields, East London.Featuring Poppy Ajhuda, Kojey Radical, Joel Culpepper, Jnr Williams, Maverick Sabre, Akala, Knucks, Rider Shafique and Ghetts - and of course Swindle himself - Meeks + Frost have created a marvellous 20 minute film where the music of the album, and the personality and chemistry of the individuals involved, comes brilliantly and stylishly to life.[imgtoken data:1]The album, Swindle's first release since 2019, was written&nbsp;in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the project brings together a community of artists who found the most simplistic emotion of joy together in collaboration. They explore themes such as love, grief, fatherhood, life, race in Britain, aspirations for their future selves and other personified rumination experienced during the first lockdown in early 2020.The film is packed with songs from the album from start to finish, beginning with the arrival of several of the artists, dressed to the nines in suits and eveningwear that echoes the 1920s Jazz Age, to the strains of What's More. Then on the next song Sunday Best, featuring Kojey Radical, Culpepper and Knucks, the on-screen performances start, and we see the artists' back at the tailors' being fitted for their suits.[imgtoken data:2]To How I've Been, the artists greet each other at the Church - a reunion of friends at a special gathering, and that mood carries through the course of several superb performances that follow.On Blow Ya Trumpet, a quartet of formidable rappers - Knucks, Ghetts, Akala, Kojey - pass the baton around the table as they drink and play dominos. Then the soul and jazz mood takes over, and backup musicians join the cast, as Poppy Ajhuda performs Darkest Hour with Swindle.&nbsp;For No Black, No Irish, the jazz mood is emphasised further by a transition to monochrome for Culpepper and Maverick Sabre's affecting performance of No Blacks, No Irish, with accompanying&nbsp;musicians.[imgtoken data:3]And it is in these performance sequences that Meeks + Frost really excel, with a perfect arrangement of the photography, captures the quality of the performance with great style but also without drawing attention to itself. That is really fine live performance direction.The performance element finishes on Lost, which brings us squarely back to the theme of change that is central to Swindle's The New World. And overall, this does something that is rare for a music film of this length - it demands your attention throughout, and leaves the viewer with a sense they have witnessed something very special. And a need&nbsp;to listen to the album again.&nbsp;Massive kudos&nbsp;to everyone who worked on this film - behind the camera and in front of it.&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:4]

Jeremy Ngatho Cole directs an emotive video for Little Simz's I Love You, I Hate You.&nbsp;Exploring challenging relationships and the absence of love where it should be most present, the visuals portray two different character studies.&nbsp;A man struggles with connection, whilst a variety of people surround him and paint. In the other setup, a young woman reaches for her father, but the space in between them extends, rupturing any chance at a healthy relationship.&nbsp;Little Simz appears in between the setups, seamlessly blending the vignettes together with an impassioned and authentic performance.&nbsp;

Carl Addy directs a gorgeously vibrant and textural promo, combining performance with intriguing visual effects, for metal behomoths Bullet For My Valentine.&nbsp;Beneath a series of warped animated layers, the video for Rainbow Veins intermixes glitchy performances with character vignettes - beautifully shot by Thomas English and graded by Jax Harney -&nbsp;blending together in a nightmarish hallucination.&nbsp;The distorted VFX heighten&nbsp;the surreal aesthetic, whilst contrasting colour palettes lend an otherworldly style to the concept.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

Ehsan directs a banger for Unknown P, the world's poshest drill rapper - the creation&nbsp;of comedian Munya Chawawa -&nbsp;depicting a bombastic food fight among the vile&nbsp;upper classes.Opening with a group of well-to-do chums having breakfast, the video cuts between a&nbsp;Good Morning Britain&nbsp;parody on a TV - with Unknown P in the eponymous Piers Morgan role -&nbsp;and an unexpected&nbsp;narrative full of quirky characters and hilarious props... and plenty of fancy baked goods.Ehsan has been making an impact in commercials but here he shows that his explosive take on visual comedy is well suited to music videos.&nbsp;The film is technically brilliant throughout, with a terrific edit by Lucian Barnard. And the sound design deserves a special shoutout for capturing an anachronistic mix of old martial art&nbsp;film sound effects&nbsp;and contemporary action foley.

Troy Roscoe teams up with Nathan Dawe and KSI to create suitably lighthearted take on sporting achievement for one of the hits of the summer.It begins with Nathan Dawe, KSI, SFX and Window Kidd having a game of poker, but when the overconfident KSI goes 'all in' and comes a cropper, he is stung into challenging the guys at other sports.&nbsp;They decide that basketball and football is where their true talent lies - but turns out that they are all completely useless at both sports.In a slick and stylish production - DoP Stefan Yap captures the sporting incompetence like a big budget Nike ad - Roscoe does a great job in showcasing KSI's big personality and&nbsp;the camaraderie among the group, and adds some useful&nbsp;VFX touches to assist the impression that the boys' on-court skills are improving.

Nafe Smallz breaks free from self-imposed limitations in Capone's&nbsp;hallucinatory video for Home Run.&nbsp;Across several conceptual setups, Smallz is seen suffocating under the weight of expectations, both from himself and society as a whole. Aesthetically reminiscent of a fever dream, the anachronistic setups blend into each other, forming an abstract narrative that is haunting yet strangely optimistic.Depicting one man's struggle against the world, Capone has cleverly visualised the universal feeling of falling behind, and learning to stand back up, dust yourself off and move on.&nbsp;

A chicken mascot dreams of a free-range life in Humans' video for Kawala.Repeating the same routine day-to-day, the hapless worker - brilliantly played by&nbsp;Sy Thomas - is harrassed by the public and his colleagues as he tries his best to make it through each day. Cooped up inside the small shop, he cannot get a break - until a fist fight takes him over the edge.&nbsp;Sprinting through woodland with the contents of the till and some leftover flyers, our 'chicken' is finally free to live life on his own terms.&nbsp;&nbsp;Providing a funny yet poignant take on cruelty within the fast food industry, the visual draws many parallels between life as a minimum wage worker and the treatment of livestock. Simple yet effective, with a great performance by Thomas, the concept is a lighter take on an important conversation, and a great visual representation of the lyrics.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;promise of respite cannot come soon enough in James Slater's video for Sam Fender&nbsp;-&nbsp;starring Matt King,&nbsp;who played&nbsp;Super Hans in&nbsp;Peep Show.Hanging in the shadows of a low-key Fender gig at a social club, King is the&nbsp;washed up artist&nbsp;who has been unceremoniously cancelled in place of the young new talent. Overcome by the emotion of the band's music, he dives into&nbsp;intoxicating choreography that starts on the dancefloor but spills out well into the streets of London.Fender also pops up as various characters as King frolics around town, including a chip shop owner and busker, giving Saturday a rather more light-hearted and humourous vibe in comparison&nbsp;to his previous videography.&nbsp;Blending the naturalistic and sincere elements Fender brings to the table with Slater's passion for the avant garde, DP Alexandre Jamin builds a hazy and colourful world for Fender and King&nbsp;to inhabit. It’s&nbsp;quirky and contemporary&nbsp;yet realistic enough to represent the madness a Saturday night in the city can bring.&nbsp;
