Joe Connor directs an innovative and beguiling promo for Ellie Goulding's Like A Saviour.Set against a desert backdrop cycling&nbsp;through different times of day, we see Goulding and a set of dancers perform slick choreography&nbsp;whilst the environment around them transforms.&nbsp;Making use of the latest production technology, the entire video was shot against a virtual LED screen, with the sand set built right in front (and on top)&nbsp;of it, allowing the creative team to completely control every aspect of the visual.&nbsp;Aside from the magic of the technology, Goulding and the dancers hit every mark, creating an evocative video that perfectly complements the emotive track.&nbsp;"Ellie came to me with a brief that dared me to think a little differently," explains Joe Connor. "I&nbsp;wanted to throw myself in front of the latest technology and play with what was possible using the large Virtual Production Volume screens."We’ve all seen the images of the Mandalorian, but I felt that there was so much room to use this technology for artistic expression. I wanted to create a desert space where time constantly shifted, from day to night and back to day again. This felt like a really exciting and dynamic starting point to work from.&nbsp;"Working with D-Neg studios, we built a large-scale, 3D desert in Unreal Engine and then built a detailed, real-world foreground using tonnes of sand to blend into our 3D world. The ability to shift through the time of day was enhanced by David Procter’s real-world lighting, which was synchronised with the constantly changing lighting on the screen.&nbsp;"What the team has created is a video which feels unlike any other Ellie Goulding video. It’s a great example of cooperation and collaboration in the pursuit of a singular visual idea."&nbsp;

WIZ reunites with longtime collaborator Will Young for the first part of a short film, heralding the singer's latest project, an album&nbsp;of cover versions. And once again, director and artist explore interesting&nbsp;dramatic territory for Young's intriguing take on Bat For Lashes' Daniel.Young plays an ageing theatre actor -&nbsp;a character in sad decline, desperately clinging to his dignity.&nbsp;As he has demonstrated in various other videos down the years, directed by&nbsp;WIZ and others, the singer demonstrates a real capacity to inhabit a role and&nbsp;express&nbsp;vulnerability, and here he plays this flawed character&nbsp;with real pathos."The Daniel&nbsp;video is the first of two to be derived from&nbsp;Just Like That,&nbsp;a short film featuring Will," explains WIZ - aka Andrew Whiston. "The theme is addiction - addiction to performance. How there’s no escaping it, despite all the damage it may bring. It always pulls you back, as seemingly the only fulfilment lies in the ephemeral thrill of the stage. Also, it was shot By Robbie Ryan, which is pretty insane!"With muted cinematography and in-camera effects by Ryan - the DoP renowned for his work with Ken Loach and Andrea Arnold -&nbsp;WIZ keeps focussed on Young's&nbsp;characterisation&nbsp;throughout, prefaced by narrative context. It's on a smaller scale than the epic cinematic drama they created together for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZpWnuzVlxk" target="_blank">All Time Love</a>&nbsp;some years ago,&nbsp;but arguably this is WIZ and Will Young's most courageous collaboration yet.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

André Reid creates a 1920s feel&nbsp;for his&nbsp;video for Jaz Karis, set in a Cotton Club-style nightclub.&nbsp;The monochrome narrative,&nbsp;filmed at O'Meara in&nbsp;London, follows&nbsp;the&nbsp;male protagonist&nbsp;through the venue, where he encounters Karis and falls in love with the sound of her voice, as&nbsp;she sings onstage for the refined&nbsp;audience."I love narrative music videos," says&nbsp;André Reid.&nbsp;"It can be hard to direct those though with male artists though, so I’m glad that’s what Jaz was after when we were going back and forth about the concept.&nbsp;"The idea slightly changed as we only had six hours shoot time on the day, so we mainly focused on the important things. But we managed to film quite a bit so we had options in the edit.&nbsp;The crew was fantastic everyone came together for the creative process, and with that we were able to create a lovely piece."
