In a 20th anniversary celebration of Christina Aguilera's classic ballad Beautiful, Fiona Jane Burgess delves into what is plaguing the youth of today in a series of striking tableaux that focus on the threat of social media and 'influencer' culture on the wellbeing of the impressionable young.The video starts with a series of children blankly staring at their phones, their eyes lit up by their phone screens. Burgess brings each character’s insecurity to life as the camera pans from different perspectives. Young girls stare at themselves in the mirror, covered in cosmetic surgery incision lines, not convinced by the song’s powerful lyrics.&nbsp;But ultimately, as with Aguilera's classic song, this is ultimagely a message of hope.&nbsp;The video ends with a powerful shot of kids playing hopscotch and climbing trees. It is a reminder that should be instilled in every child; it’s okay to just be a kid.[imgtoken data:1] FIONA JANE BURGESS:“This film is a love letter to young people in 2022. It’s an acknowledgement of the fact that social media has totally transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn, our mental health."Young people are constantly fed images of unrealistic beauty standards, and with more images and influencers than ever circulating online, it’s virtually impossible to control what information young people consume. This in turn has created an online world which can be as positive as it is volatile. This film explores the tension between progression versus regression in terms of beauty standards and how our cultural relationship to it has evolved in the last twenty years, specifically in relation to the impact it’s having on children and young people.[imgtoken data:2]<blockquote>My hope is that this film opens up a conversation around... images and messages children are consuming.</blockquote>"Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues and disordered eating in teens. According to emergency room trends, there’s been a 50% increase in reported self-injury among teenagers since 2009."According to a paper published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, more than half of girls and one-third of boys ages 6 to 8 are unhappy with their body weight. And more than 80 percent of 10-year-olds are afraid of being “fat.” This is heartbreaking. This needs to change. A love letter, a signal for change in the way we perceive beauty. Georgia Twinn laments the dark side of the online experience, in Rebekah B Creative's promo for Raised By The Internet.&nbsp;Framed in the centre of a selfie-light, we see Twinn recording herself on her mobile phone in a small room, before being transported to a dark cyberspace abyss.&nbsp;As the view count shoots up, we see the artist's features get manipulated by AI filters, and her body tethered to a wall of screens.Dark and minacious, the grimy aesthetic perfectly suits the cautionary tale, and contrasts her vibrant styling.&nbsp;"Georgia is a TikTok OG, so she wrote this track from a place of experience," Rebekah says.&nbsp;"We start with Georgia posting on the internet and watching her post go viral, altering her and changing her until she’s connected to her first viral post as if it were a life source."

Giovanni Bolzani Valenzano creates something magical from the mundane in his latest filmed choreography piece for the Italian electronic artist Piet Row.In a children's hospital at night, two women are transformed by dance and costume into creatures performing a movement ritual that brings them together. Then this process moves on to the next stage - a third dancer is drawn into their orbit on an old&nbsp;London Underground tube train.&nbsp;Like his previous video for Piet Row, for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/04/17/piet-row-youre-not-alone-anymore-giovanni-bolzani-valenzano/58236" target="_blank">You're Not Alone Anymore</a>, Valenzano's video features a stirring dance performance by&nbsp;Greta&nbsp;O'Brien Vial - this time with&nbsp;her fellow dancers Kasichana Okene-Jameson and Faye Stoeser. Their superb&nbsp;costumes by&nbsp;Elena Muntoni are crucial in establishing&nbsp;their fantasy dance world within these incongruous locations.&nbsp;The video also benefits from lovely photography by Jack Hamilton, and a boldly colourful grade by Caroline Morin. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;The video for Luna is a marvellous expression of the power of choreography, as a way to portray a dream world,and also the imaginings of young children. Luna is the little girl, seen towards the end of the video, who dreams of her mum, who has to work late night shifts at the children's hospital, as a magical and fierce creature.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hugh Rochfort's video for punk-jazz combo&nbsp;Melt Yourself Down is a frenzied and euphoric examination of society's outcasts and their refuges.Though all vastly different, the characters share an internalised claustrophobia, which is brought to light as they're not&nbsp;able to satisfy their natural desires, and their need to belong. They are consciously or unconsciously trying to shield their own spleen from the societal 'Boot'.Colourful and wacky, the video is relentlessly frenetic courtesy of the quickfire edit by Greg Hayes, allowing just enough time to catch your breath before it goes somewhere even wilder than before. The extensive use of closeups helps to portray the feeling of claustrophobia, the unusual camera angles adds to disorienting effect - pretty much perfect for the&nbsp;uncompromising Boot And Spleen.&nbsp;
