Hannah Berry George explores growth and anxiety in her promo for Sody's Butterfly.&nbsp;Isolated in a darkened bedroom, Sody is shown stalking the four walls around her, desperate to break the cycle of fear and overwhelm that keep her contained in&nbsp;the space. The arrival of several butterflies spurs her into action, showing how&nbsp;caring for something or someone&nbsp;can help us walk out of the darkness and back into the light - especially profound in our current climate.&nbsp;Exploring metamorphosis and the ability to break&nbsp;free from our self-imposed limitations, the poignant video ends with Sody walking off-frame, ready to face the world and conquer the uncertainty that comes with modern life.&nbsp;The use of restrained camera movement&nbsp;and&nbsp;stuttered effects in the edit helps represent the cyclical nature of fear, beautifully elevated by&nbsp;Nathalie Pitters' understated yet intimate lighting.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Olivia Rose directs a glittering festive promo for Jess Glynne's This Christmas.&nbsp;Following a variety of hapless characters, all experiencing their own mini-Christmas disasters - with burnt food and flaming hair taking the lead - the promo is a charming, fun-filled ride with plenty of seasonal cheer.Jess Glynne plays a number of these characters herself - including&nbsp;a delivery driver and drag queen (or king?) - and the result is some of the best moments in her videography so far, embodying all of the drama, energy and excitement that comes with the holiday period.&nbsp;The editing is also well executed, using match cut transitions and whip pans to make each vignette feel part of the same story.Overall, this is a feelgood and stylish video that marks Glynne's first Christmas track and visual, produced in collaboration with Amazon Originals. &nbsp;

Jordan Rossi directs a vibrant performance video for Griff &amp; electronic duo Honne, as part of a project on emerging talent by Vero and Hunger Magazine.&nbsp;Inspired by the amalgamation of art and technology in the digital era, the promo is an energetic ride through glitchy textures and otherworldly projections.&nbsp;While Griff's performance is understated yet endearing, and&nbsp;Honne's cameos are cleverly intertwined into the art direction, via lilting loops on TV screens.&nbsp;"This video was a love letter to the digital era taking us down the rabbit hole of cyber space," says Rossi. "It was always meant to be a slightly surreal acid trip but in a very confined computer context. I described it initially as Dali meets The Matrix with a glitchy style."The video was created as part of a special collaboration between Vero and Hunger Magazine as a focus on emerging British music talent. It was great to have Griff part of this with her strong visual style and laser-focused vision."

Following his win at Eurovision 2019 with his song Arcade, Dutch singer-songwriter Duncan Laurence returns with a call to arms against hate in all its forms -&nbsp;and&nbsp;a striking video directed by Ed Sayers.Choosing an intimate performance setup, bathed in red light and very much representative of the elemental theme of fire, the video for Love Don't Hate It is the result of an approach borne of necessity. Lacking real flames for obvious health and safety reasons, Sayers has turned to a classic burned celluloid aesthetic and used it to create a fresh take on one of the most powerful and multifaceted elements on the planet.

Bombay Bicycle Club are back, and they bring with them a cinematic comeback tale from old friend Louis Bhose.Opening with a tongue-in-cheek preamble about British society crumbling without their presence, the video is by no means as lighthearted as that opening suggests. But its certainly celebratory, and a terrific performance video for the new song Eat Sleep Wake by Bhose - who used to play with Bombay Bicycle Club back in the day, before he took up directing.&nbsp;We follow Jack through this new society as he tries to reignite his musical dreams, attempting to play a variety of different instruments but frustrated at trying to do it all himself. We are then introduced to the other band members, all following the same ritual.&nbsp;Bhose's regular DoP collaborator Murren Turrett does a great job creating a very cinematic sense of the struggle of creation. it all leads up to the moment, when&nbsp;the band make contact with one another again - via smoke signal.So then it ends, just before the four bandmembers reunite, representing the end of one era and the start of another.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Aniel Karia&nbsp;directs this challenging short film, based on a concept by Kano, in which a promising teenager is stabbed. The London MC searches for sense and reason in this conversation with his neighbourhood.We meet the teenager (Nat) and his family in a warm, naturalistic vignette, loosely scored by the calm gospel lilt of Trouble. Karia lets us bask in this domestic calm just long enough to lull us into a sense of security. Which he interrupts with a tragic two minutes of iPhone footage, captured by friends and a bystander. On the way to buy rice for his mother, Nat gets caught in the middle of a violent conflict. The moment, over which we can hear a woman describing the event to the police, bears a troubling resemblance to real videos captured by witnesses and shared on the news.There’s a pause for the funeral. And then a raucous wake, guest starring Ghetts, at which Kano is cheerfully hounded into performing his new track Class of Deja.Karia (previously of the series Top Boy and Pure) presents the aftermath of violence with a light, even-handed touch. He and Kano address the cycle of knife crime, but avoid moralistic sensationalism: “I ain’t trying to be no preacher man” says boy’s uncle, speaking at his funeral. A pensive optimism courses through the film, but quiet details - Nat’s sister, bedroom and keyboard - remind us what is at stake. This is a powerful, timely piece of work, and a defining opus for Kano.
