To the delight of their legion of fans, Blur are back once again, on tour playing all the old favourites -&nbsp;and with a new album.Toby L and team have captured the band on the road to create a hugely dynamic and enjoyable promo for one&nbsp;of the songs from the just-released The Ballad Of Darren."The video for St Charles Square was shot on location at the band’s first performances in almost 10 years, occurring in less frequented towns and cities across the UK, including Colchester, Eastbourne, Wolverhampton and Newcastle," explains Toby L.&nbsp;"The shows were emotional, sweaty and very close. We wanted to merge the tension and paranoia of the song’s lyrics and themes with the infamous intensity and power of Blur’s live sets.[imgtoken data:1]"We played around with shutter speeds, leant into whip pans and crash zooms, as well as looping certain moments, offering a subtle nod to their early Popscene&nbsp;video, a song which we feel possesses a similar sense of kinetic chaos. It’s in black and white to mirror the photographic aesthetic of their current era and new album, The Ballad of Darren."Accumulatively it somehow means that 'new Blur'&nbsp;is recalling 'classic Blur', remaining both contemporaneous and timeless in equal measure. The present and past colliding harmonically, creating something new in the process."

Mae Stephens is searching for a way out in Elliot Simpson's dazzling promo for If We Ever Broke Up.&nbsp;It's the viral alt-pop hit you've been hearing everywhere from TikTok to H&amp;M's dressing rooms, and it finally comes complete with a brilliant visual from Simpson and team.&nbsp;In the video, we see Mae devise fresh ways to escape from her overwhelming boyfriend - from poisoning his tea to letting him float away tied to a set of balloons - and from that spark of an idea, a hilarious, eccentric visual ensues.&nbsp;Offbeat and irreverent in its style, it's a perfect visual introduction to the artist (for those who have the track in their heads all day long, but may not know the person behind it yet) and it's a promise of more fun to come in future releases.

Ben Lankester returns to music videos with an intense and riveting study of a fiercely committed boxer for Big Ideas.The band is the new project by&nbsp;Nathan Nicholson and Adam Harrison - of The Boxer Rebellion -&nbsp;and Lankester himself, on board as creative director and responsible for the visual identity of the project. And the video for the debut release The American Dream is a powerful statement of intent, featuring a charismatic performance by the boxer and actor Tom Benett.With superb cinematography by Carl Burke, Lankester focusses upon&nbsp;the boxer's punishing training regime, his manic drive to be the champion, and the devastating&nbsp;impact it has upon his mental wellbeing.&nbsp;The story is told more as a psychodrama, which puts character and metaphor ahead of typical narrative; and Lankester and Burke draw upon the rich heritage of boxing in film to show a man brought low by his commitment to the American Dream.&nbsp;The end result is a video that punches well above it's weight.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

Harvey Pearson addresses a tough subject in a hugely affecting way&nbsp;for young indie-soul&nbsp;singer Puma Blue.Jacob Allen (aka Puma Blue) wrote Velvet Leaves a few years after his sister attempted suicide - when he was finally able to process&nbsp;this traumatic and tragic event. Pearson's video for the song explores the relationship between the singer and his sibling - their friendship and the impact of her mental health issues upon him - in an impressionistic fashion, with reality slipping into a dreamworld and then veering towards somewhere nightmarish.With Mia Gill playing the sibling foil to Allen's sensitive performance, Pearson uses a number of effective, lo-fi&nbsp;visual devices to express emotion and instability: the film speeding up to a blur, the vision of the girl becoming indistinct; the siblings frozen in a fiercely white spotlight, as if in grave danger.&nbsp;But perhaps most effective of all is a more realistic snapshot, after Allen witnesses his distressed sister storming out of the house.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;"This was a really special project and the first job out of lockdown," says Pearson. "Jacob (Puma Blue) came to me with this beautiful track and the touching story it told, one of family and getting through the hard times - balancing on the line of life and death. The video is a small tribute to Jacob’s sister, exploring memories and an abstract journey through mental health."&nbsp; &nbsp;

In Ryan Hope&#39;s audacious&nbsp;promo for Sam Smith&#39;s&nbsp;Lay Me Down, the Church nave is invoked for all its traditional purposes: to mourn at a funeral, to celebrate a marriage, to worship at the altar. Technically it&#39;s a marvel - each ceremony&nbsp;is captured within one continuous Steadicam shot. Even more important than that is the message sent out by the centrepiece of the video - a same-sex wedding between&nbsp;Sam Smith and his partner.&quot;This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country,&quot; writes Sam Smith, in a Facebook post on the video&#39;s release.And aside from the controversy surrounding the&nbsp;political message, the video&#39;s visual narrative packs a punch in framing&nbsp;the ballad initially as a funeral hymn, before it transforms into&nbsp;a soulful serenade. Expertly shot by Jake Scott and graded by Richard Fearon of MPC, the video holds our attention through its rich yet mournful auburn hues which flow seamlessly into the lightness and reverence of the matrimony scene. Richard Fearon explains, &quot;throughout the promo there are countless dynamic grades happening, over multiple layers and windows that are tracked in and out of the shot.&quot;
