The first video from Rejjie Snow&#39;s recently released debut album Dear Annie is a parable on the plight of the outsider, the Other in society, given its own distinctive character by director Martin C. Pariseau.Snow plays an alien, different from earthlings only due to his facial markings, who is making a bid for freedom with his human girlfriend, with the police on his tail. Pariseau, best known for his award-winning video for Kaytranada&#39;s Lite Spots a couple of years ago, keeps his focus on the characters rather than overegging the plot.&nbsp;So this feels more like the pre-Spielberg 70s than the 80s and beyond.&nbsp;There&#39;s also room for a cameo by featured artist&nbsp;Animé, performing as he&nbsp;nonchalantly cruises past the escapee alien in a baby-blue convertible, top down.&ldquo;In this video I wanted to explore another form,&rdquo; says Rejjie Snow, who wanted the video to reflect the 70s, as well as exploring the track&rsquo;s themes of identity. &ldquo;Space themes shape the album and Martin&nbsp; brought this to life. It felt good to be from another planet for the day.&rdquo;

Galaxies intertwining with naked bodies, and underwear the size of this ISS are just some of the visual adventures undertaken here. It&#39;s certainly a lot more interesting than watching an awkward fumble on a field.The interplay between the real and the fantastical here is enhanced with subtle visual cues, letting you get lost in between fantasy and reality.

Directing team&nbsp;AB/CD/CD have created a superbly entertaining video for&nbsp;French producer Breakbot&#39;s&nbsp;My Toy &ndash; featuring British DJ &amp;&nbsp;vocalist Yasmin &ndash; which gives the classic Hollywood musical production number a sexy, Gallic-flavoured modern twist.&nbsp;The toy in question is a boy robot without a face, brought to life by a bevy of girl&nbsp;designers and engineers - and whisked off in an animatronic seat - shaped like a female breast. Thus the sexy retro-futurist tone is set for the rest of the video, with our awestruck robot protagonist observing a parade of attractive women as they perform an elaborate choreography including seductive cat costumes as well as&nbsp;aerobics and&nbsp;cheerleading routines.The engineers back at the lab eventually&nbsp;decide upon&nbsp;a&nbsp;face which reflects his state of overwhelmed excitement. But having been primed for love with one partner, will true love prevail? Our will our boy robot be a little too human?&nbsp;

French electronic music producer&nbsp;Panteros666&#39;s collaboration with Yoann Lemoine aka Woodkid on Clear has inspired this blending of digital aesthetics with natural surroundings in the largely CGI video by&nbsp;Inès &amp; Victor.&nbsp;As well as being an expression of the directors interest in&nbsp;Net Art, and the idea of how Art translates through digital media, the&nbsp;video is also influenced by René Laloux, an illustrator, painter and sculptor who also directed many classic animation films, including La Planète Sauvage, released in 1973. &nbsp;

French directing duo&nbsp;Jack Antoine Charlot and Arnaud Delord paired up as JAKARNO for the first time&nbsp;with their wonderful promo for Tahiti Boy&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/02/05/tahiti-boy-palmtree-family-low-life-jakarno" target="_blank">Low Life</a>&nbsp;&ndash; a series of moving magazine covers featuring an&nbsp;androgynous lipsynching&nbsp;rock star.Now in&nbsp;the video for French band Baden Baden&#39;s Hivers (from their album&nbsp;Mille Éclairs) JAKARNO set&nbsp;up the bandmates as unmoving centerpieces in the middle of picture perfect, hyper-real&nbsp;scenes straight out of the advertising photography world. They do not engage with the world&nbsp;around them -&nbsp;which flashes on screen in a series of deceptive super close-ups that reveal their true theme in the revealing detailed wide shots.And whether it&#39;s a&nbsp;holiday, Christmas celebrations&nbsp;or a Halloween party, they all slowly pass by&nbsp;leaving them in their solitude.

Directors Jack Antoine Charlot and Arnaud Delord came&nbsp;together for the first time as JAKARNO to make this brilliantly executed video for&nbsp;Tahiti Boy &amp; The Palmtree Family&#39;s&nbsp;Low Life, which tells the amusing&nbsp;rise-and-fall story of a late 70s rock &lsquo;n&rsquo; roll icon -&nbsp;convincingly played by the model Alex Wetter - through lovingly created pastiches of classic magazines. Not just covers, but double-page article&nbsp;spreads too.Arnaud has worked with&nbsp;David Sztanke (aka Tahiti Boy) before, and knew he was open to original concepts. He and Jack had wanted to work together for some time, and Jack came up with the&nbsp;concept while flicking through his girlfriend&rsquo;s magazines at the beach, and the pair then began their research.&ldquo;We started with a collection of pretty much all the magazine covers created since the invention of the printing press. We came across some seriously awesome things &ndash; it&rsquo;s actually an art form of its own,&rdquo; say the directors, who opted for a mythical persona inspired by the likes of Jim Morrison, Iggy Pop and David Bowie for their protagonist. Then they shot all 15 covers, requiring different lighting set-ups, wardrobe and makeup, in a single day. This&nbsp;mammoth task required precision planning - so&nbsp;they also created a&nbsp;detailed 2D animatic as well as mock-ups for each magazine &lsquo;cover&rsquo; before the shoot.&ldquo;Our main reference was definitely Bowie because of his androgynous side, which is mirrored in the work of Alex Wetter, our main actor,&quot; continue Jack and Arnaud. &quot;We were also inspired by gifs, which felt like the ideal approach towards giving life to the photos of our star.&ldquo;Passion Paris believed in this project and invested a lot of time and energy in it. They worked really hard to find the right people for this shoot, so in the end we didn&rsquo;t have to compromise on anything and our crew was incredibly talented and very motivated.&ldquo;We knew we wouldn&rsquo;t be able to improvise on set or be able to shoot from several different camera angles. It&rsquo;s a film that was mostly determined during the storyboard stage, in some ways like an animation film. If we hadn&rsquo;t been so well prepared at the beginning of the project, the whole thing would likely have been a crappy Vine video.&quot;Jack and Arnaud add that their very different backgrounds worked to their advantage - they complemented each other. &quot;We had both already done live-action, CG and 2D animation, so without thinking we mixed together all of those mediums in this video and it seems to work quite well.&rdquo; So the JAKARNO partnership looks like it&#39;s here to stay - while they will&nbsp;also continue to work on solo projects.&nbsp;

Aside from the lovely camera work and black and white sheen, the striking thing about this video for French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens is the excellent acting. &nbsp;Then something dawns on you. &nbsp;Amazingly, all four characters - two female and two male - are the same performer. &nbsp;Christine takes the leads in her music video to excellent effect and kudos to the clever trickery used by The Barbarians (director)&nbsp;to pull this off. Reverse camera angles, body doubles and even some added post-production shaky-cam are combined to bring this confusing and impressive impressive video to life.&nbsp;

After their acclaimed unofficial remake of Jay Z and Kanye West&rsquo;s Niggas In Paris last year, Lionel Hirlé &amp; Grégory Ohrel &ndash; aka Greg &amp; Lio &ndash; have followed up something even more impressive. For French rap star Booba&rsquo;s Jimmy they tell the story of a young man&rsquo;s journey from poverty in Africa, to drugs kingpin in Paris.It&rsquo;s told in a series of sequences, seamlessly stitched together, that literally follow our main character through the key moments of his irresistable rise and eventual downfall &ndash; sometimes in command of his fate, sometimes not. Shot in Dakar in Senegal and Paris, it&rsquo;s a mini-movie that clearly owes a debt to the likes of Scarface and Goodfellas, but also manages, in a few precise brush strokes, present a crime story that gives you a bigger picture. Very good indeed.
