Oscar Sansom and Ciaran Lyons, directing colleagues at The Forest Of Black, have collaborated for the first time as a directing team on this lovely video for Belle &amp; Sebastian's Poor Boy.They take us to a classic Glasgow tenement, where a young lad takes a voyeuristic interest in the strange behaviour of his neighbours (including several members of B&amp;S).Like a very eccentric Glaswegian Rear Window, and nicely bolsters the burgeoning reputations of both Sansom and Lyons in one fell swoop.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ciaran Lyons&#39; latest video for Leeds rock outfit Hookworms examines a young salaryman&#39;s unexceptional&nbsp; routine, in all it&#39;s repetition and its minor variations - and lack of personal interaction -&nbsp;with a characteristic graphic sensibility and dry wit.After the rapid&nbsp;vignettes, this relentless cycle come to rest in the past 30 seconds or so, on the man&#39;s face - a picture of confusion and fear. Plenty of time to ponder on the point of it all...&nbsp;The track Static Resistance comes from Hookworms forthcoming Domino release, Microshift.

Ciaran Lyons&#39; directs Glasgow alt-pop&nbsp;duo Bdy Prts as performers in a bizarre ballet, employing visual wit, VFX&nbsp;and his trademark pixellation technique to create another impressive work.As he explains below, Lyons was inspired by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triadisches_Ballett" target="_blank">Oscar Schlemmer&#39;s Triadisches Ballett</a>&nbsp;- originally developed and performed in the 1920s, and filmed in 1970 &ndash;&nbsp;which saw dancers bound into extraordinary, and highly restrictive balloon-like&nbsp;costumes. If your music video knowledge goes back to the 80s, you may also discern a likeness to New Order&#39;s landmark video for True Faith at the start. That&#39;s no bad thing either.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ciaran Lyons&#39; video for Glaswegian hiphop duo Jay Rolex &amp; MC Almondmilk is a treat for anyone who has a soft spot for the ugly side of the so-called Beautiful Game.Lyons sticks the pair in their own shockingly rudimentary football-with-ultraviolence videogame, with the occasional (unauthorised) interjections from TV football&#39;s most famous faces.&nbsp;Ciaran Lyons says: &quot;Making a video for a big Scottish man rapping about football is actually very liberating, because you know that you don&#39;t have to try to appeal to everybody. The concept was to try and create a really moronic, violent game of football, without spending any money.&quot; Job done.

Ciaran Lyons has achieved something distinctive with his video, somewhere between photography and illustration,&nbsp;for Scottish artist The Pictish Trail. That&#39;s because of the painstaking amount of work he put into it.&quot;It&#39;s about the porous connection between our life and and non-life, explored via the medium of a slightly cheesy pop music video,&quot; says Lyons. In fact, Johnny Lynch&nbsp;aka The Pictish&nbsp;Trail makes an endearing hero who undergoes a splitting of his personality when his reflection develops a life of his own. Both characters acquire an aura around them, which gives the video that distinctive look.This was achieved frame by frame, by hand.&nbsp;The video was created from&nbsp;tonnes of still photographs. &quot;Each of&nbsp;the video&#39;s approximately 11000 masks was individually hand drawn,&quot; explains Lyons. Very nice job.

Ciaran Lyons explores the territory between stills photography and animation in his impressive&nbsp;two-part film Sleepwalker, which serves as a promo for two tracks by Hot Since 82 (aka Leeds-based DJ and producer Dan Padley), Restless and The Core.With the influence of animation genius Jan Svankmeyer clearly evident, the clever bit is how, rather than sequential, the two parts form a kind of film palindrome. In the Restless video, a sleepwalker is pulled by a string through an urban hinterland, past dream images and a&nbsp;sleepwalking woman, towards a high-rise, and into that woman&#39;s bedroom. In The Core, the woman makes the return journey... &nbsp;
