"After listening to the track for the first time I knew that I would write an ambitious idea," says John. "Build A Fire is one of the heaviest tracks I've heard from Lamb and with its gentle intro, building verses and exploding chorus I felt that the film needed to be as big and epic as possible, achieving the same energy."
 "The shoot was great. I guess shooting a special effects film at night, on a deserted wasteland with no electricity under an airport was both incredibly ambitious and probably stupid, but it worked. Producer Ebony Maitland pulled in an exceptional crew who worked incessantly until the early hours. Richard Van Den Burgh did an amazing job with the explosions and flame effects, timing and triggering each one perfectly with the track."
"Lou and Andy were brilliant. There were times when I could see that they wanted to crack up laughing because the heat from the explosions was so intense behind them but I didn't feel it mattered. If anything it stopped their performance from being too stiff. It was great to work with them both and their energy and belief in the idea was perfect"

The new promo for digital station BBC 6 Music directed by Dom Bridges entertainingly features Jarvis, Lauren, Huey, Lamacq, Cerys and new recruits Radcliffe and Maconie who are 'building 6Music' from an unfeasible array of listening devices to create their own version of Broadcasting House. Very impressive it is too. 
The powers at the BBC are drawing a line and hoping you forget that they intended to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watchv=UaRA6xg3jao&amp;feature=related" target="_blank">close the thing</a> last year - and probably succeeding.

Themes of sin and redemption pervade Dan Sully's new video for Chapel Club, where an American Pentecostal congregation are filled with the Spirit at the hands of a demagogic preacher - observed by a skeptical, sensual girl. 
Hot on the heels of his gritty video for Miles Kane, Dan conjures another big cinematic experience and gets some big, eye-bulging performances from his cast. And it all works well with Chapel Club's intense sound. 

"This is a video based on the practises of Pentecostal churches in Appalachian America. Serpent handling, 'falling in the spirit' and 'dancing in the spirit' respectively.
"The filmmaking gods looked down kindly on us with this one. Everything went perfectly on the day and I think confining a music video to one room with only a couple of lighting setups worked in our favour. It gave me the time I needed to work with the actors. There was no possibility of obscuring half-arsed performances with lens flares and clever edits in this video, and I was really happy with the whole cast. The takes where everyone flung themselves around whilst 'dancing in the spirit' will stay with me for a while. 

"Every single member of the crew batted this one out the park. Thanks to Emily and the band for believing in what was quite a left-field idea on paper."

BBC Music Shorts: Florence & The Machine’s Dog Days Are Over by Keith McCarthy

"We had puppet legs and arms made for Marina that she then wore on the shoot so we could get it all in camera. The shoot was very funny with a lovely team of puppeteers all dancing around in white body socks as they controlled Marina's puppet limbs with sticks and fishing wire, all choreographed by Natricia Bernard. Then Gary Brown at Munky and an army of flame artists worked 27 hours a day painting out Marina and the dancers' real legs and arms and putting in a new shadow for her. I have to say a huge thank you to everyone who worked on the video, it was a lot of fun".

Formally part of the Youth Club directing team, this is Matt Nee's first outing on his own and he had this to say about the video: "A short day in a sweatbox with lungs full of feathers and a great crew turned into a really enjoyable solo debut. Part of the excitement was frantically shooting the projected elements during the morning so that we could create the performance area. It seemed simple enough but maybe I was the foolish. I won't forget the insanity of cutting parts of the video during lunch to be projected, I didn't eat all day but I think it was worth it for the projection sequences. We had no lighting desk so I ended up dancing around like the Sorcerer's Apprentice, conducting the crew to block the light with polyboard like a gang of possesed mops. I just coughed up another feather."

"I'd been to a weird party where there was one middle-aged dude totally off his tits sleazing over all the girls and I thought that guy is a perfect, intimidating character for a video somewhere down the line.
"I started with him and our young girl - wrong place, wrong time - and built it up from there. It was important that the band's teenage following connect with the main character and feel the claustrophobia and intimidation.
"Her escape route was influenced by a scene in Escape From New York where Snake shoots a hole in some polyboard and jumps through it, the opening title sequence to the Sly Stallone film Paradise Alley, and of course Glazer's Levi's Odyssey commercial, where we blatantly ripped two of our angles from. We cast a young gymnast with proper acting experience and off she went."

"I bought a kaleidoscope and took it to bits - taking things to bits is one my favourite things to do. And what I found is that a kaleidoscope is essentially a revolving surface with mirrored walls that infinitely reflects plastic shapes in the middle outwards, to create a pattern.
So I wanted to make a giant version of this, that the guys in the band could replace the plastic shapes, and they could basically become the pieces of the kaleidoscope creating shapes that would make giant kaleidoscope patterns.
"I spent the best part of a fortnight with a mini-kaleidoscope pressed up to my eye, to see what kind of things make cool patterns. So if anyone saw me peering in to a dustbin with some mirrors attached to my face I do apologise.
"So what we did was build an 18ft wall of mirrors that enclosed a revolving dancefloor - I am realising this all sounds very Timberlake - and then gave the guys giant versions of things that you get in a kaleidoscope, like massive silver balls and star shapes. Plus other things that we knew would make cool patterns, like the umbrellas and light tubes. Then we shot it from above.

Friendly Fires’ Paris by Chris Sweeney

Fresh from the sophistication and glamour (and budget) of the <a href="http://www.colonelblimp.com/directors/YSL/">YSL menswear films</a> Chris Sweeney co-directed with Sarah Chatfield, here's something rather diff.
Chris recreates teeny TV with an ever-growing cast of sock puppets for the unsigned Rod Thomas.
Sweet and somewhat poignant, and despite the "it's not you, it's me" break-up line, hearts remain resolutely within chest cavities.

Okay it's not yer actual time-slice but it's convincing enough to make you wonder... It's shot by exciting new DoP-on-the-block Chris Sabogal, and it's good to see a new non-Dan Le Sac one from Nick.
