Jonny Kight's haunting and dark video for Glaswegian Producer Sega Bodega's debut EP deals with the ugly subject of male obsession and disorientation. 
Set to the tense and dark score of Konerak, Kight displays a flair for getting standout performances from his actors - notable this time from Julien Rivett and Ed Birch - who take the viewer on an uncomfortable 'noir'-like journey.
"We talk a lot about creating this unsettling feeling through the camera work and colours used on set," explains Jonny, "My DP Ciro brought a box of tights to stretch over the lenses and we always tried to move the camera so it wasn't just sitting on our shoulders. The plan was to create an intensity and leaving ambiguous questions unanswered."

A collaboration between Natasha Khan and animation/mixed media master Peter Sluszka has resulted in this diverse and absorbing visual feast for Bat For Lashes' Lilies - the fourth single from the critically acclaimed album The Haunted Man: life-sized puppets, a flock of 2D spirits, miniature landscapes, morphing polygons, and Natasha herself were animated to create a universe in constant flux.
It's Peter Sluszka's first music video since his animation tour de force for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2012/05/16/moones-better-energy-by-peter-sluszka/" target="_blank">Moones' Better Energy</a> last year, and this repeats the trick of bombarding the viewer with delightful creations - Natasha's song unleashes a trio of curious puppets, a wax and paper ocean, a cloud contraption and a series of stop motion sequences, including Natasha's head becoming encased in a glass case. 
And it took months to come together, from Natasha and Peter's first meeting in New York last year, to a three day shoot in Hornet Inc's studio later in the year, to the completion of the stop motion work in early 2013. 
"Natasha and I developed the idea together, starting with a meeting in New York when she was here last May for her album cover shoot," explains Peter. "She shared the track, as well as initial ideas and inspirations. This was very helpful as it gave me a starting point and insight into the types of visuals she was interested in. After the first meeting, we emailed thoughts and references and began developing a more specific approach and design. 
"Ultimately, it took months. We shot Natasha's live performance and animation sequences in three intense days in the fall and then slowly accumulated the remaining animation shots. Encasing Natasha in glass was in fact one of the hardest sequences. It required her to pose very uncomfortably for hours and it was claustrophobic despite the transparency. The entire structure was held together with copper foil tape that I had to slice away incrementally with an x-acto knife. Between the blade proximity to Natasha's head and the need to shoot efficiently, it was one of the more stressful animation processes I can remember.
"I had a blast working with Natasha and I think the performance footage with the massive puppets shows moments of real joy, humor, and improvisation that counterbalance the poise and meticulousness of the animation shots. It was also a pleasure working with a great and devoted crew. Like so many videos, the budget was tight relative to the creative ambitions and production designer Ben Phelan pulled together some incredibly inventive builds with very limited resources. From the start, everyone credited in this production went above and beyond to make it as unique as possible."

Sweet Baboo's very cool Let's Go Swimming Wild gets a characteristically colourful and clever video from Casey Raymond. First and foremost its a gentle spoof of our touchscreen zeitgeist, as Steve Black aka Sweet Baboo starts transforming into a cat, courtesy of the viewer/operator who is creating the look of the video using off-the-shelf FX and wallpapers.
And the facepaint makeup is in the same ballpark as the awesome work by <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2013/01/09/young-rival-two-reasons-by-james-kuhn/" target="_blank">James Kuhn in Young Rival's Two Reasons</a>. It's actually the work of folk singer Cat Le Bon - Steve usually plays bass in Cat's band. No wonder the video is cat-tastic...

Banks takes us on a tour of the band's house - actually production company Shameless' office - with some excellent work by DP Thonke and Thomas English's AR rig.
"I've worked closely with the band for a few years now producing content documenting their progress, so it was amazing to finally get to do a proper video," explains Franklyn. 
"The idea came about from Rob in the band really, in which we're floating around a weird house party where everywhere you look someones doing something strange. So with the floatyness came the amazing AR rig and Mr Thomas English. We wanted to nudge it a little further than the run of the mill house party so we shot it at Park Village, home of Shameless. In the forty years that it's been going literally thousands of shoots must taken place in the studio but this is the first (and I'm told last) to take place in the other rooms around the building. 
"The band's performance is my favourite bit. It's kind of an ode to the Weezer Sweater Song vid, which myself and the band are massive fans of..."

Nina Fog gives a full-on enigmatic performance in Tom Werber's densely atmospheric promo for Evil Alien's Higher Than The Sun. 

Approached by the band in 2011, Tom says: "I really liked their music. It has a real power and atmosphere; it often feels quite cinematic, along with these great, very personal songs.

"I met with Glenn from Evil Alien and we talked about movies, about movie music that we love: composers like Ennio Morricone. There was a lot of common ground and I really wanted to do a video for them. It took a while to get there, but here’s the first result of that meeting. I really wanted to do something like this - very small, very light. It was an intense but enjoyable shoot."

The band will be providing the score for Tom’s short film FUMES, which is currently in the final stages of shooting and due to be completed this year.

It sees an art installation come to life – a heart bleeding paint onto a plinth creates gorgeous patterns. But the heart, hanign on a nail, is itself deteriorating, reflecting the tension and distress in the song. It was all created with a combination of model making, in-camera effects and animation.

"It was a great shoot as we got to experiment with lots of different materials and techniques," says Fern. "I spent a week testing different paint consistencies and colour pallets and working out different ways to make the movement of the paint as interesting as possible. I also ran a series of tests on mini-sets to create visual textures that would feel organic and help build the atmosphere we were after. My flat ended up looking like it belonged to some paint crazed scientist! By the end of the shoot I was on first name terms with all the staff at my local Homebase."

A collaboration between producer Diode and poet Rick Holland has prompted this striking video for Open Blue by Ben Canny - an editor now directing his first video.
A series of strong compositions include singer Beth Rowley floating Ophelia-like in freezing water and cliff jumps at night. "The shoot entailed four days of madness up and down the Pembrokeshire coastline," says Ben. "Freezing quarry water, cliff jumps at night and a few extra grey hairs later and I think we've achieved a really different and exciting video!"

A compelling work by Thibaut Duverneix - described as an &#39;audio-visual collaboration&#39; with Swedish band The Good The Bad and their reworking of the track 032. It&#39;s an impressive new take on what started with &#39;time-slice&#39; as the camera moves within what looks convincingly like still tableaux, involving females of all ages.Thibaut and the team at Antler Films have revealed how they actually achieved it, to fans of the video on Vimeo:&quot;We shot on RED MX with UNIK OPTIC lenses. People were standing still. We flied [sic] through the scenes with a steady cam at 3k 60fps. We then 3D motion-tracked the scenes, integrated 3D elements and fixed some things (wire removal, eyes blinking a lot...). But not too much, I didn&#39;t want it to be too perfect, people move just a little bit, sometimes blink their eyes, so it would be more poetic and less mechanical.&quot;Pre-grade was done in the RED software on set by our amazing DIT Alexis Vanier. The final grade was done in after effect along with compositing by Fly Studio.&quot;
