Andy Morahan directed the non-show bits in the video for X Factor winner Matt Cardle's When We Collide. And in a weird twist of fate, Andy previously directed the video for the original version of the song by Biffy Clyro, back when it was <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2010/01/07/biffy-clyro%E2%80%99s-many-of-horror-by-andy-morahan/" target="_blank">Many Of Horror</a>. 
So same song - very different vids. FIGHT!

Two young whipper-rappers Ironik and Chip get invited to a party in Max &amp; Dania's new vid - and before you can say "Helmut Newton" they're surrounded by a bevy of lovelies in expensive underwear dabbling in S&amp;M.
It could be the wrap party for Justify My Love, or a girlie get- together at Ellen Von Unwerth's - and M&amp; D keep it sweet. Here's the 'riding crop' version, with Elton in a gimp suit - joking!
Thankfully, there's also valuable input from commissioner Tim Nash on his unbeatable <a href="http://inyourface-atlantic.blogspot.com/">blog</a>, just below his eye-watering account of having tested a penis-enlargement potion. And I thought that's why we had videos like this.

Tim Mattia has just shot this satisfyingly destructive clip for Red Light Company, based on the classic German flick Christiane F. The kids (well, good-looking young people) return to school (or is it uni) for a bit of punk-style smash-it-up.
Ross McLennan, nominated at the MVAs for his work with Foals on the Red camera, does it again, and a typically excellent edit from Quin Williams.

Tim's other recent video is this Super 16mm (with added Super 8mm) shot video, photographed by Daniel Trapp, featuring moments of intimacy between Babyshambles' bassist Drew McConnell and Antonia Campbell Hughes, with a Last Supper scene featuring members of The View, The Noisettes and Fionn Regan.
"We shot it all at his house, enlisting the actress and fashion designer Antonia Campbell-Hughes, various band members and south London rappers for the Last Supper scene," explains Tim. "Pete Doherty was due to be one of the disciples but fell asleep just before we shot it. It was decided to leave him to it."
"The song deals with the reluctant breakdown of a relationship - you know, that whole 'courage to change the things I can, strength to accept the things I cannot' kind of situation," adds Drew. "The uncanny thing is the treatment that Tim wrote for the video echoed that feeling of hopelessness exactly, and he wrote it before we'd spoken about the track's subject matter. For me the video shows that something beautiful can come of rot and despair."

Feeder lead singer Grant Nicholas walks past a man in a hoody with no face - and then disappears, his face then appearing under the hood, as if 'on-screen'.
And he's the first of many. Which is why David Mould's new video for Feeder - and his first video for ages - ultimately delivers a real emotional punch.

"The video's concept was largely a result of a conversation with Grant [Nicholas] in which he talked of an idea incorporating a cast of thousands and I talked of an idea about a creepy bloke in a hoody.
"Somewhere in the middle, the idea of a man with a flat-screen for a face was added. The premise was set; a faceless man who acquires the faces of 'everybody', or at least, everyone he passes on that particular day.
"It is about questions of identity within a city, of being everyone and no-one. Ultimately, the burden of other people's faces proves too much and he tears them off.
"Stylistically, an aged, gothic tone reflects the underlying 'darkness' and compliments an intentionally 'lo-tech' approach to post-production."[/pay]

BRS's Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell get under each other's skin in Tim Mattia's video for This Is Not For You.
"I've wanted to work with Laura-Mary and Steven for some time and knowing that they're constantly being asked if they're an 'item', I wanted to play with that relationship and replace the sexual tension with something darker and more sinister," says Tim, who's also recently been working with indie 'supergroup' Helsinki and Johnny Foreigner.
And this good-looking video was shot (on a Red cam) by Daniel Trapp.

Blood Red Shoes’ This Is Not For You by Tim Mattia

Phil Griffin's latest video uses Italian superstar Eros Ramazzotti's heartfelt piano and vocal performance as the basis for a deceptively simple visual device, quite possibly based on Paul Klee's declaration that art was taking a 'line for a walk'. 
The video uses a single, black animated line to sketch the world it inhabits, telling a linear story of a young boy's journey into manhood.

Tim Mattia had an amazing 2007. He was recruited to shoot bands playing live for a NME DVD covermount at the start of the year and barely had a day off after that, shooting live show after live show all year long.
He has also applied his live performance directing nous to videos - most notably for <a href="http://www.bikinifilms.co.uk/public/newwork/mv/reel/bc_wgam/" _blank="">Biffy Clyro</a> - and he recently went to Nashville to shoot a riotous performance for Cage The Elephant, another hard-rockin' bunch of sons-of-preachers from Kentucky (who happen to now reside in East London). 
Frankly you can almost taste the sweat and lick the excitement. And the seen-it-all-before scorn of the old boozers is a wonderful thing.
