For the strangely hypnotic Editors single Eat Raw Meat, Lee and Wayne Lennox deliver this compelling animated promo, in stark contrast to their last video for Chicane's Come Back. Happy with their brief from Sony 'create a dark, twisted, black and white animated music video' they went out of their way to do just that. 
Wayne: "We're huge fans of Editors and love the track, being asked to pitch was a dream come true. The track sounds almost tribal; a repeated pattern with ghostly chanting voices. We began to think of the visuals retaining the looping patterns and drew our references from early 20th century animations which were constructed soley of repeated cycles". 
Lee: "We immediately started gathering references from some of our favourite animations, and you can't reference black and white animation without thinking back to 'Mickey Mouse - Steamboat Willy'. I can remember watching it as a child and loving every moment, since maturing (slightly) I've wanted to animate in that style, this project seemed to fit perfectly. 
"I created everything using Adobe After Effects CS4; characters were pre-comped with their looping animations, then layered upon the background layers. Even the background photographic images which appear later on were cutout/masked in After Effects. I wanted the video to be completely 2D and retain the way animation used to be created before the arrival of computers, yet I wanted to apply a slight modern 3D aesthetic. Yet it's completely fake 3D; everything you see on screen is actually 2D; various animators refuse to believe this, but I assure them it's true.

And now for something completely different... For Chicane's new Paul Young-sampling single Come Back, the Lennox Brothers shot this quite extraordinary promo which saw them visiting several European cities. The video is already a Youtube sensation and the brothers explain all here:
"Just before we received the brief Wayne (one half of the Lennox Brothers) had actually just split up with his long term girlfriend. He thought about making her a video to try and win her back, something simple, but unique.
"One week later the track/brief 'Come Back' by Chicane arrived.. you couldn't make it up, it was just perfect timing. So, after 0.332457 milliseconds of thought we came to the conclusion: "Lets get paid to make this video, pretend its all scripted, and don't tell the label it's really for Wayne's girlfriend!" Luckily the label liked our idea, and off we set around Europe with Wayne in his pants and lots of weird stares from the public.

"The only thing we didnt predict was the weather, it was shot in January and was terrible; snow storms, hail, rain, ice, u name it... we experienced it. And poor Wayne was out each day in just his pants and vest dancing away like crazy without a care in the world. Until his dice with death in the ocean! He nearly caught phneumonia as it was -7 degrees in the water.
"For the final shot we attached a Flip Ultra HD to a rocket and it took about two hours. We finished the video, Wayne gave it to his ex girlfriend, and it worked. They're now happily together and expecting a baby later this year.. mental!!"

Shot under London Bridge station, the promo for Aggro and Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt's Candy emcompasses some wet and wonderful UV techniques.
"Having a UV watertight is something I have been thinking about for a while" says Nava. "I have always loved UV and wanted to try something different with it. 
"We shot in a freezing location under the arches in London Bridge. A lot of the extras were fans so were there for free and luckily all were really up for it. It was a pleasure to direct a Pussycat Doll as she was a real pro. Aggro brought his own flavor to it as well, which I feel works really well with her style. All the crew killed it and worked extra hard. I hope you like".

Lee Lennox has teamed up with his brother Wayne to form a directing partnership, which they have very sensibly called the Lennox Brothers.
Lee says, "My brother has aways had an input on set, he's been on all of my shoots either as a 1st Ad or just for his immense creative energy. It's always been my aim to work with him for as long as i can remember... It was just a matter of time before we joined up to make the Lennox Brothers. On set it's like having two brains, but one mind - like 6 foot Siamese twins. We think the same thoughts and speak the same comments... which is not surprising as we both emerged from the same nutsack."
You get the picture. And the first product of this partnership is this vid for Belgian band Ghinzu - a strangely alluring performance piece which sees the band assailed by impish black-painted fembots intent on ruining their world - like comely bikini-wearing gremlins.
Wayne choreographed the girls. "Being the choreographer was a strange affair," he says. "Faced with four dancers in a rehearsal studio prior to the shoot I threw on my best mankini and took to the floor with a pirouette and a bum spin..."

"We wanted the video to seem like an art installation, a studio space which begins slightly pretentious, yet ends up with destruction and mayhem; completely strange.
"There is no reason for the girls arrival, we wanted the aesthetic to be random and meaningless, yet hold enough attention to make people want to know what the hell is going on.
"The band wanted to replicate their album cover in the video; almost like its their rehearsal studio. So we wanted the space to be lit quite natural, and used the studio's fixed flourescent lights to our advantage. It meant spending less time on lighting the studio which gave Richard Mott (DoP) a huge grin. It meant we could spend more time shooting, which these days is an rare thing.
"Seeing the girls painted black in tiny bikinis was both a dream and a nightmare. They looked super hot, yet really strange and alien-like. It was so confusing - now we know what Capt James T Kirk must have felt like."

This is Emil doing something a bit different following his major hits with Tinchy Stryder - but there's another Tinchy on the way too. And we're hearing that Emil is shortly to team up with brother Jake to help kids make music videos for the BBC's <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/blast/">Blast</a> project.

"The video was a real laugh to make. Kid British were so up for it and just wanted to make the video better in whatever way they could - even if it meant high jumping over a thick long hedge.
"We shot it in the Manchester suburbs on a dead end street where one of Kid British lived. Everyone was so helpful in giving up their back gardens for the day and basically we ransacked their street for the shoot. The Manchester crew were great and Chief Productions looked after me like their own.
"Stu Bentley was the man behind the cam and just killed it with his versatile and cinematic approach. Claire Oxley was amazing and like my second mum, making sure I was always wrapped up warm and had enough film stock. Big love to her. Everyone involved smacked it and I had a right laugh doing it, which always helps the end product I think."

Emil Nava's video for Tinchy's Take Me Back has been sensationally successful, nestling in the high echelons of TV airplay with your Beyoncés and Katys, even though it cost a smidgeon of those biggies' budgets. Put it down to the look, the song, and those swimsuits, but Emil created something slick that punched way above its weight.
So unsurprisingly Emil returns to reprise the magic all over again with the self-styled Star In The Hood who has a way with a hip hop pop tune. It's more colourful, and despite that kid in the hat its going to be very successful again (it's already done about 1.5m views on YouTube - aren't they supposed to be not showing vids or something..)
Now Emil deserves his chance with a decent budget...
