There&#39;s star-studded, and then there&#39;s Simon Aboud&#39;s video for Paul McCartney&#39;s Queenie Eye. Here&#39;s a video with a celeb headcount that&#39;s not just impressive, or even remarkable. It&#39;s ridiculous.Macca has a habit of drawing on the stars to his vids, just not usually by the truckload. But here he&#39;s made an exception, or perhaps just taken things to their logical conclusion. At first he&#39;s alone, apart from his producer, in the most important recording studio in the history of pop - Studio 2 at Abbey Road.Then we get Johnnie Depp, hanging out at the foot of the piano. Closely followed by a platoon of movie stars and supermodels and a few fellow musicians thrown in:&nbsp;Meryl Streep, Jude Law, James Corden, Jeremy Irons, Peter Blake, Sean Penn, Alice Eve, Lily Cole,&nbsp;Jack Savoretti,&nbsp;and, sort of stealing the show, Kate Moss.&nbsp;No-one out-celebs Macca...And hats off to Simon Aboud (and to editor Julia Knight)&nbsp;who manage to make the video develop in a seemly fashion, and maintain the song&#39;s integrity (it&#39;s actually pretty good)&nbsp;in the face of all the celeb action.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa makes a winsome impression as the girl wanting to win the heart of the good-looking boy in the laundrette - but he can't see her, because she's a fairy, or a ghost...
Heartstrings are tugged.

Stereophonics have now been around so long they are now (virtually) the grizzled vets of Brit indie pop-rock. But in their many videos it's hard to remember any genuinely feelgood ones.
Their early vids, by their fondly-remembered directing commissioner Pinko, had a certain something - and I've always been keen on Dave Slade's vid for Mr Writer, with Kelly Jones and co. in a clown car-crash. But feelgood Not until now.
Luc Janin's video actually has almost as much slo-mo as Mr Writer, and initially suggests something gritty, until it gains momentum, and undergoes a liberating transformation.
Luc was inspired by the annual Hindu 'Holi' festival - in fact, this is what happens across India during the festival, but this time the band get caught in the crossfire.
"The music and the song were so strong that any image trying to illustrate the lyrics too literally would have felt weak to me," he says. "I thought it needed to be a completely abstract visualization that left room for individual interpretation."
Luc and Annex Films undertook extensive street casting process to secure a diverse mix of characters, diverse in ages, looks and sizes - 80 extras in all - for the one day shoot. Two 16 mm cameras captured all the action.
"The concept offered amazing photographic opportunities with the vibrant powders flying around, colouring people of different ages and appearances in a location full of textures.
"However I also wanted an emotional core to this film rather than just being about a look".
It's a beautiful, gleeful mess, bursting with humanity, that's excellently captured by DoP Richard Stewart, and expertly edited by Paul Hardcastle.
And Kelly almost looks like he's enjoying himself.

The video for The Fratellis' lead-off single for their new album features a colourful cast of characters (including a devilish guy whose face catches fire) led by the eccentric Mabel herself.
And all the while the band are performing on the ceiling, hanging like a bunch of hard-rocking bats. Although I doubt that's the proper group noun for the little blighters.
Luc himself takes up the story.

"The brief was very open with just one main restriction: I was told that the band wasn't keen to do any kind of acting and wanted to be performing, exactly how they would be performing on stage.
"I wanted to have some kind of narrative but keeping it far away from the lyrics, describing a surrealist mood with a random and absurd combination of cast, wardrobe, set design, actions, colours and photography. This video was about creating an intriguing and fantastic world inviting the viewer's imagination to take the lyrics in new places.
"I prepared this video by creating the most non-sense possible, using random spontaneous ideas or even accidents and mistakes to deconstruct any kind of logical formulas that would instinctively come to my head.
"The casting was really the starting point of creating this strange world. I wanted to find interesting people that would dictate the characters. Then we made these unexpected combinations of clothes, props and set design to give them attitude and a story.
"I was looking for a way to make the band one of the characters in the scenes, integrating them while also giving them a parallel point of view. So, I thought I could have them standing upside down on the ceiling, which would give them a surreal aspect without having to ask them to do anything else than a straightforward performance.
"We had to build a rough copy of the ceiling on the floor and flipped it upside down in post-production. The fact that their hair for example didn't fall the right way didn't matter to me as nothing in that world was real anyway. So Jon, Barry and Mince would have their own gravity centre in the roof.
"This was really a new kind of work I was trying here and I must say, I really enjoyed it, so I might push it further in that direction again sometime soon."
