Luke Jacobs is best known as a DoP &ndash; in particular&nbsp;for his work on director Josh Cole&#39;s videos for Rudimental and others. But now Luke has taken the plunge as a director himself, helming his debut video for London-based production trio Disciples&#39; They Don&#39;t Know.&nbsp;It&#39;s a gripping story - filmed on Luke&#39;s home turf, the beautiful, very cinematic&nbsp;Pembrokeshire coast of West Wales. Two teenage boys shooting rabbits on the cliffs interrupt a drug dealer forcing himself on a local girl, and that encounter, ending with the girl stealing the dealer&#39;s bag, ignites a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse.Luke shot this too&nbsp;- on a mixture of camera formats, then graded by Ben Rogers at Gramercy Park - and gets excellent performances from his cast. In particular&nbsp;Frederick Schmidt &ndash;&nbsp;also the hero of the <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/09/05/i-see-monstas-circles-josh-cole" target="_blank">I See Monsta&#39;s Circles video</a>, Luke&#39;s most recent video with Josh Cole - makes a memorably unhinged villain.

And in contrast to the pared-down studio shoot for Jessie&rsquo;s Wild, the promo for What Love Is Made Of is a richly colourful, superbly photographed snapshot of life among the boy racers, shot out on location in Thorne Bay Park in wildest Essex&hellip;Among those involved in doing the car-based stunts were the Essex Drifters. And this required a brilliant job from not just one DoP, but two &ndash; Richard Stuart &amp; Patrick Meller.

Jessie J returns with Wild, the big comeback single from the long-awaited second album &ndash; together with friends Big Sean and Dizzie Rascal, and a startling new blonde suedehead cut. And it&rsquo;s all brought together in an audaciously spare visualisation by her regular director/collaborator Emil Nava.
This is all about the performance &ndash; in glorious black and white &ndash; revealing the fourth wall of a video shoot, with glorious cinematography by Will Bex and a brilliantly kinetic edit by Vid Price. And Jessie&rsquo;s remarkable, wild leopardprint outfit, styled by Anna Hughes Chamberlain.

When Brave Bird Saved is Fred &amp; Nick’s 15 minute short film featuring the first four tracks from Laura Marling’s new album Once I Was An Eagle – a combination of artist and dance performance in a cinematic setting, that serves as an introduction to the album and a precursor to Fred &amp; Nick’s video for the album’s first single <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO2gm29rI7E">Master Hunter</a>.Fred &amp; Nick say: “We wanted to progress things on from our previous collaborations with Laura, and with the narrative of Once I Was An Eagle being so strong our interpretation was from a theatrical perspective. We wanted this to feel expansive, ambitious and have a strong sense of journey at its core. The story expands and continues onwards into the video for Master Hunter and then further beyond in the coming months.“We shot the film in just ten hours with heroic effort from all involved – with particular mention to choreographer Kitty McNamee, dancer Jessica Lee Keller, DP Tom Banks and his team, steadicam op Ari Robbins, and our producer Sloane who was incredible and stuck with it throughout – and Billy Mead and his team at Ten Three, James Tillett and Edwin at MPC, Andrew Curtis and Lucile – all of whom consistently went above and beyond during the post process.”The trailer is below – and the full 15 minute film is <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7eRrTKmYO0">here</a>.

Laura Marling 'When Brave Bird Saved' - Short Film Trailer

The highly inventive new Futureheads video has echoes of an imperishable classic. Or perhaps two. 

So there's a considerable nod to Steve Barron's legendary video for A-ha's Take On Me. But as green-screen is also an integral feature of the video - the band find themselves comped into scenarios from cityscapes to desertscape - Nima Nourizadeh's modern classic for Hot Chip's Over And Over is arguably also an influence. But Appleton's video has a momentum all it's own, and the effects work, executed by a team at Golden Square Post, is excellent. The scenes where the band are playing in the storyboard world were tracked in 3D in the programme Syntheyes and then the tracking data was imported into Flame.
The storyboard art, by Alan Bennett, is very good too. And the video is now No 1 on MTV2 chart, proving that the look pioneered by Take On Me still goes down a treat.

"At the start of the production process I started to worry about how much storyboarding I was going to have to do in a very short amount of time and had the idea that storyboards could be the basis of a promo, one that would try to quite playfully show some of the mechanics of the promo production process.

"As a kid in the 80's I remember watching so many promos which tried to create other worlds in-camera in studio settings. I remember seeing A-HA's 'Take on Me' and being pretty fascinated by it, one of those promos that was talked about in the school playground, and I thought it would be fun to nod in its direction here.
"With the concept it would have been really easy to bring lots of doc-style material into it, but I wanted to try to avoid this. There was a roaming camera on the shoot picking up observational type shots - snippets, ECU's, details of things which weren't too general, and mainly concentrated on getting shots of the monitor within the studio.
"Golden Square did the post-production, and the combination of low-fi and hi-fi involved, simple quick pencil sketches with 3D tracking was quite exciting to me. The process was more involved and dynamic than I'm used to. I'd been doing a lot of flat 2D compositing with camera movements applied as an effect afterwards, but here we were working with 3D tracking on shots with zooms, and pans on top of dolly movements. 
"The 3D department modelled the studio from measurements and put it in an environment sphere to help out with some of the shots. This really opened up possibilities because we weren't limited to placing things on the walls in the studio; we could build up layers and depth in a space much larger than the studio. 
"I didn't want to make it too elaborate with too many elements as the shots are quick, but I think this does makes all the difference in the city and desert sections, in what was a really good experience for me."
