When Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux co-directed the video for PUP&#39;s Guilt Trip, he really started something.He concocted an origin story for the&nbsp;Canadian punk band starring young actors Finn Wolfhard and Malcolm Craig. Wolfhard went on to become&nbsp;one of the stars of Stranger Things; now&nbsp;Schaulin-Rioux&#39;s directed the video for Wolfhard and Craig&#39;s own real band, indie-rock outfit Calpurnia, which they started after appearing in the Guilt Trip video. &nbsp;This is a one-take video shot on Super 16mm that features each member of the fourpiece band, starting with Wolfhard, walking through the city at dusk. And each one has a shadow that is playing the instruments that they play in the band.Despite&nbsp;a small window of time and very&nbsp;limited number of takes, Schaulin-Rioux&nbsp;and DP Cole Graham have pulled off this tricky one-shot idea with aplomb. It&#39;s a peach, and as he says below, making the video wih his Guilt Trip stars&nbsp;was a proud moment for&nbsp;Schaulin-Rioux.

Almost three years down the road from their brilliant, myth-making origin story in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gnntMvMgx4">Guilt Trip</a>, PUP are back with longtime collaborator Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux and the original cast for a continuation of the story.With Finn Wolfhard gaining a considerable level of fame since the Guilt Trip video (in case you&#39;ve been living under a rock, he has a major part in Netflix smash hit&nbsp;Stranger Things)&nbsp;so&nbsp;you&#39;d be forgiven for thinking this sequel was just capitalising on his popularity. The truth is that&nbsp;the cast, director, and band are clearly just enthusiastic about making great videos, as Wolfhard himself pointed out in <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2016/11/stranger-things-finn-wolfhard-pup-sleep-in-the-heat-video.html">an interview with Vulture.</a>This clip explores the life of young PUP as they tour the country, pick up a companion along the way. It turns out to be a heartbreaking ode to the pets that the band have loved and lost - an almost universal feeling, tugging at your heartstrings.&nbsp;

Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux&#39;s latest instalment in his ongoing series of videos for PUP - including, lest we forget, the classic Guilt Trip &ndash;&nbsp;is this intensely&nbsp;gruesome piece for If This Tour Doesn&#39;t Kill You, I Will. And as you might guess from the song&#39;s title - and their previous collaborations &ndash;&nbsp;the video&nbsp;is violent, bloody, and&nbsp;not for the squeamish whatsoever. No, really.&nbsp;&nbsp;When the bandmates stop at a gas station to fill up that familiar PUP tour van, all the rancour and hatred starts to spill out. They don&#39;t just come to blows. Its far more hardcore than that.&nbsp;PUP frontman Stefan Babcock told&nbsp;NOISEY:&nbsp;&quot;We get along really great, but we&#39;re in a van together all the time, we sleep on floors next to each other every night,&quot; he said. &quot;For the most part, it&#39;s really awesome, but once in a while&hellip; it&#39;s hard.&quot;&nbsp;You have been warned...&nbsp;

Chandler Levack and Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux&#39;s brilliant spin on a band-origin story&nbsp;for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/07/04/pup-guilt-trip-chandler-levack-and-jeremy-schaulin-rioux" target="_blank">PUP&#39;s Guilt Trip</a> - their second for the band, following the also-great vid for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6UaplvdnWM" target="_blank">Reservoir</a>&nbsp;- has been a slow-burning viral hit ever since its release a year ago. Both the band and the directors have gained deserved critical acclaim as a result, most recently with the video included in this year&#39;s&nbsp;Saatchi &amp; Saatchi New Director&#39;s Showcase.&nbsp;So just how would they approach the long-awaited follow-up?In fact, Chandler and Jeremy&#39;s video for Dark Days&nbsp;is&nbsp;both a sequel&nbsp;and distinctly different, encapsulated in its very first shot &ndash; it&#39;s the same as the final shot of Guilt Trip, the band&#39;s van driving away&nbsp;through sleet, but this time animated. What follows is an engrossing episodic&nbsp;account of the band&#39;s progress from when they entered that battered old van to today, told in cartoon form.But this time all the stories in the video are true, apparently - and they certainly do spend a lot of time in that dear old van. &quot;We got them drunk and made them tell us!&quot; say&nbsp;Chandler and Jeremy. &quot;The last PUP video we directed got us on Promo News&#39; Top New Directors (2014) list and was also nominated for an UKMVA for Best Rock Video. It screened in BUG and was recently selected for this year&#39;s Saatchi &amp; Saatchi New Director&#39;s Showcase at the Cannes Lions. So we wanted to follow it up with something different!&quot;&nbsp;They have certainly done that, and whatever the truth of it, they&#39;ve&nbsp;also achieved another fine document in myth-making - with the considerable assistance of Toronto-based Solis Animation. And it&#39;s hard to think of any video made at any time where the directors&#39; love of the band comes shining through. All these guys totally rock.
