Inspired by the lyric "Baby if you could would you go back to the start..." Jim Canty's excellent video for Biffy Clyro's Biblical takes the classic Groundhog Day premise of repeating an event and offering up another chance (or chances) to do things differently. But this is no comedy, and no easy resolutions come out of Biffy lead singer Simon Neil changing his behaviour once he gets a fateful phone call. 
Jim Canty and the band shot the video in and around San Francisco and Jim has said that he wanted to execute a "film-like idea with a little surreality thrown in." He certainly gets a charismatic turn from Neil, who holds it together so well, no band performance is required...
And having not directed a music video in ages, Jim Canty has another one in the bag for another chart-topping act, that's just-released - for Mumford &amp; Sons...

Employing a mix of live-action and animation, the video pushes through a re-imagined beer label trompe l'oeil, complete with vaudeville pop-colored stage theatrics. The labels bring the song's lyrics to life, ultimately ending with a full-on dance number around a helplessly lovesick rabbit.

Hockey discover some choice vintage audio gear to record things - like a handshake, or bubbles - as opposed to sounds, in Skinny's video for the very hooky Song Away. 
That, and its relaxed, freeflowing feel makes this a very cool video indeed. Skinny are Dori Oskowitz, David Hache and Marc-Edouard Leon, whose previous work includes vids for Devendra Banhart and Felix the Housecat, and tour visuals for Marina And The Diamonds.

Some videos are wacky. Some are a little bit nuts. MGMT's previous vids arguably fall into those categories. 
But Andreas Nilsson's video for Flash Delirium - shot over one long cold day at Clue Mansions in Yonkers, NY - the first single from the new MGMT album, is of a different order. It should be wrapped in a straightjacket and carted off to the nearest funny farm. It's completely mental. 
But then, that's families for you...

MGMT’s Flash Delirium by Andreas Nilsson

Shot over a week in Los Angeles during a mid-world tour break, Coldplay's Chris Martin enthusiastically got into the role of superhero for Shynola's imaginative promo for the band's Strawberry Swing. Child-like in essence, Shynola capture perfectly the sweet, fun nature of the song. To be promoted as a 'focus track' rather than full-blown single, its release coincides with the band's Wembley Stadium shows in September.
