In 1968 Joe Cocker had his first and biggest hit with A Little Help From My Friends - what was then, and arguably remains, the greatest ever cover version of a Beatles song. He then performed it live with his band, on a BBC show called How It Is - a kind of forerunner to The Old Grey Whistle Test.It's a fantastic performance, which happens to be captured by studio direction so bold and experimental that it's appropriate to describe as mind-blowing even now. It's astonishing, and must be one of the best pieces of live music footage in the BBC archive. So watch this to fully appreciate why Joe Cocker, who has died at the age of 70, was one of the greatest singers this country has ever produced. And what amazing stuff TV directors were getting up to (and quite possibly taking) in the late Sixties.

A TV programme featuring winners and nominated videos for the UK Music Video Awards 2014 is being premiered on 4Music in the UK tonight (November 27th/28th) at 01.15am GMT.The show will include videos by DJ Snake & Lil Jon, Paolo Nutini, Sia, Disclosure, Peace, Childish Gambino. J Cole, Alt-J, Wilkinson and FKA Twigs, linked by 4Music's Will Best. Further transmissions of 4Music's UK Music Video Awards round-up will run next week, starting December 1st.

A new British TV show that showcases music videos on the edge of the mainstream and from some of the hottest directors around, has debuted on 4Music. Video Junkie will be broadcast over the next three weeks in the early hours of Thursdays, promising to celebrate the art of music video with a line-up of "innovative, provocative, stylish and trippy promos – both new and from the archive."
