A new meeting of Music Video Preservation Society has just been announced, dedicated to London Records - arguably the most maverick of all established British labels - as told through its extraordinary output of music videos.Brilliant videos spanning from the early 1980s to the late 90s - from Bananarama, Bronski Beat, East 17, Fine Young Cannibals, Goldie, Shakespears Sister, Orbital, The All Seeing I and more - will be screened at this special edition of Music Video Preservation Society on Thursday 6th August at 8.30pm at The Prince Charles Cinema in central London.Following the recent success of the highly acclaimed podcast series Hit That Perfect Beat (The London Records Story) - about how the label took risks over two decades, championing groundbreaking pop and cutting-edge dance music and enjoying huge success as a result - the August 6th show will now take that story to the big screen, showing the music videos that defined the label, hearing the tales behind the videos and celebrating their creative and cultural importance. With the help of some special guests, MVPS host and Promonews editor David Knight will show how during the peak era of MTV, the label's videos were a crucial part of their artists' creative and promotional armoury. For Bananarama it was the medium where they fully expressed their evolution, from the DIY ingenues of Cruel Summer to the camp costumed divas in Venus; for Bronski Beat, this was where they could tell stories from a LGBTQI+ perspective within Thatcher’s Britain; for Fine Young Cannibals, it was the medium that drove them to global stardom; for Shakespears Sister, it was where they fully realised their distinctive visual identity.Knight will talk to two guests who will bring fascinating insight into how they were made and their impact: music journalist and presenter of the Hit That Perfect Beat podcast series Siân Pattenden; and Katie Baron, author, journalist and authority on the links between fashion and music.Furthermore, most of the London Records' music video archive has now been remastered to full 4K quality, helping to propel the label's YouTube channel to reach 1 Billion views recently. This special meeting of MVPS is a brilliant opportunity to revisit these artists' iconic videos and enjoy their greatness on the big screen. It promises to be a very special meeting of Music Video Preservation Society at the Prince Charles Cinema.• Tickets are on sale for the show on August 6th at The PCC box office here.
