The first meeting of Music Video Preservation Society in Sheffield takes place next Thursday, September 10th, at Showroom Cinema - with classic videos on the big screen, guests and great stories behind the videos. And there’s a special focus on how bands, artists and directors from Sheffield have played a significant role in shaping music videos as a medium of expression and artform.

As part of ‘Misshapes, Mistakes, Misfits’ - a season of music-related events at this year’s Sheffield Film Festival - MVPS will explore the city’s rich music history, show how it has inspired remarkable music videos and more, from the 1970s to the present day.

Sheffield artist that are featured include Cabaret Voltaire, avant garde industrial and electronic music pioneers, who made an equally significant Impact with their video work - both self-made and with their longtime collaborator Peter Care.

This show features a new interview with Peter Care, conducted with MVPS host David Knight, exclusively for this event. Peter talks about working with ‘The Cabs’ on their groundbreaking video label Double Vision and directing their videos, including their masterpiece for Sensoria. And we will have the full-length version of the Sensoria video, made for the 12” single, to show on the big screen for the first time in years.

There’s also Arctic Monkeys, and videos made for their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not - now twenty years old - including the extraordinary John Hardwick-directed video for Leave Before The Lights Come On, starring Paddy Consadine and Kate Ashfield.

And there’s Self Esteem. We will be talking about and showing remarkable music videos for the fearlessly frank Sheffield-born singer-songwriter, otherwise known as Rebecca Lucy Taylor, by the person who has directed many of her videos - her longtime collaborator, Piers Dennis.
