Music Video Preservation Society is heading outside London for the first time, with a meeting at the prestigious Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne in May.
The big screen event that celebrates the artistic and cultural impact of the music video from the 1970s to the present day, will hold it’s first meeting at the Tyneside Cinema - the leading independent cinema in the North East, situated in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne - on Thursday May 14th.
Following a series of sold-out shows at The Mildmay Club and Prince Charles Cinema in London, MVPS host David Knight will present another selection of classic music videos, providing the background and context to a selection that throws a spotlight upon the British directors and musicians who pioneered the artform in the late 70s and early 80s, revisits the MTV-fuelled explosion of creativity in the 90s, and shows how music videos continue to make an impact In the social media age.
And for this first visit to the Tyneside Cinema, following a run of sellout meetings in London, there’s also a focus on Newcastle and the North East’s contribution to music video history – on both sides of the camera. Inspiring, informative, joyful and jawdropping – and quite nostalgic too, it promised to be a special night.
• Tickets on sale now at the Tyneside Cinema website here.
