UK Music Video Awards 2022: UKMVAs backs A New Direction youth initiative

UK Music Video Awards 2022: UKMVAs backs A New Direction youth initiative

Promonews - 25th Oct 2022

The UK Music Video Awards are once again collaborating with award-winning non-profit organisation A New Direction and their Creativity Works scheme to give young Londoners who are outside the industry - and without access usual channels to enter the world of music video production - to attend the UKMVAs 2022 on Thursday.

A New Direction is an award-winning non-profit organisation working to enhance the capacity and agency of children and young people in London to own their creativity, shape culture, and achieve their creative potential. And following the successful scheme at last year's UKMVAs, students on the latest Creativity Works course run by A New Direction will attend this year's event.

Industry members are invited to talk to these young people, who will be looking for work opportunities - internships and other starter positions - within music video and wider film production at the end of their current studies.

Creativity Works is an employability programme for young Londoners aged 18-24 supporting and developing individuals who are underrepresented in the audio visual & cultural industries. These 6-week intensive training programmes are free and delivered as part of A New Direction’s Employment & Skills programme funded by The Mayor's Fund for London supported by Citi Foundation. The programmes offer industry co-designed training, mentoring, masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities for all young creatives in London connecting them to employers and opportunities in the cultural, creative and digital industries.

Alumni from their programmes are now smashing it across the sector and have gone on to direct documentaries for Netflix, music videos for Dave, Wretch32, Santan Dave, Stormzy as well as commissions for BBC, Sky Atlantic, and roles at organisations including Untold Studios, Stink Films, BBC, Wieden+ Kennedy, Uncommon and more.

A New Direction also runs the Good Growth Hub in east London – a creative youth jobs and opportunities centre – where in addition to the events, masterclasses, workshops, talks and networking opportunities for young Londoners 18-30, they deliver a range of programmes, including STEP, Creative & Cultural Opportunities Programme, Creative Connect, Freelance Exchange and Flipside.

Their students  will have a table at this year's UKMVAs - which has made possible with the assistance of Agilia Infrastructure Partners, a specialist consultancy with extensive experience delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK, and is coming on board to support this opportunity initiative for the second year.

Industry members are encouraged to meet some of the young talent on the Creativity Works course, and see how you can get involved with offering jobs/ masterclasses, technical workshops, by becoming mentors and much more.
