Promonews - 16th Aug 2022
Leading London-based creative sound and vision studio No.8 is partnering the UK Music VIdeo Awards 2022 for the first time, sponsoring of one of the UKMVAs' most prestigious awards - Best New Director.
No.8 is an award-winning creative sound and vision studio, located in the heart of London’s Soho, offering a personal, bespoke service to a wide range of clients across advertising, music, film and TV, offering multi-disciplinary services through a single point of contact. The company was established in 2019 by Creative Director Jim Allen and Managing Director Barny Wright, in late 2020 award winning Sound Designer Sam Robson joined as Partner and Creative Director, and in 2021 award-winning Colourist Alex Gregory joined as Head of Colour.
A dedicated team at No.8 work across all post disciplines - editing, audio, music, colour grading, VFX, CGI and animation - and post and finishing work on music videos has been a feature of the company's output since its launch. VFX credits include Stormzy's Vossi Bop, Dua Lipa's Break My Heart and Loyle Carner's Hate. No.8's Colour department, featuring colourists Alex Gregory and Tim Smith, has also become popular with music video directors and producers. Gregory, who joined No.8 last year, won the award for Best Colour Grade in a Video at last year's UKMVAs.
Barny Wright, MD of No.8, has commented on the announcement of No.8's sponsorship of Best New Director at this year's UKMVAs. "Music promos have been a huge part of my life," he says. "I started in the industry working on-set of (and occasionally starring in) music videos and it will always be a passion of mine.
"Since we launched No.8, promos have played a massive part in our success. The multi award-winning Vossi Bop by Stormzy directed by Henry Scholfield was one of the first projects we took on and since then we have been lucky enough to work on some incredible films for artists including Ed Sheeran, Loyle Carner, Dua Lipa and Arlo Parks.
"Promos are a great challenge, amazing fun and give us all the ability to flex our creativity without the restrictions of brand involvement. With the addition of No.8 Colour to our existing VFX and Audio services, music promos have become an even bigger part of our world. We are incredibly proud to support the UKMVAs, and excited to be sponsoring the ‘Best New Director Award’ at this years event."
The announcement comes as the first round of judging at the UK Music Video Awards 2022 is about to get underway. Jury Members will have received emails giving them details of the category (or categories) they will be asked to judge this year, and Jury Members are asked to respond to the email if they have done so. First round Judging will begin in the next few days and run until early September in most categories.
With the second round of judging scheduled for next month, all nominations for the UK Music Video Awards 2022 will be announced in late September. The UK Music Video Awards ceremony and aftershow party will take place at Magazine London, near O2 Arena, on Thursday, October 27th 2022.
