AboveGround signs to Black Dog UK
Experimental artist, photographer, and director AboveGround has signed to Black Dog Films in London.
Director of music videos for live visuals for 6Lack, Burnaboy, Dj Premier, Method Man, Da$H, Lord Apex & V Don and others, AboveGround developed his style in London and then moved to New York, becoming heavily involved in the city’s underground and hip-hop scenes.
Embracing a docu-street aesthetic, and striking a balance of creative freedom and gritty glamour, he has become renowned for capturing the singularity and individuality of underground culture. His music video work includes 6Lack's Nonchalant (above), Sam Wise's Road Rage, Da$H's Abundance, and Lord Apex & V Don's Life Goes On.
As well as moving image and graffiti, AboveGround is an acclaimed photographer. Shooting mostly on 35mm, his work reflects the world around him, from dimly lit subway tunnels, to cityscape rooftop views. A practice that plays off the unplanned nature of analogue film.
“We’re excited to welcome AboveGround to Black Dog," says Martin Roker, Global Head of Black Dog, of the director who is currently based in London. "He's a great fit for our growing roster of young directors and artists. Each has their own strong individual sense of style and the type of work they want to create, and we try and encourage that as much as possible."
