The third annual MusicVidFest returns to the BFI Southbank tomorrow (Wednesday, November 9th), with a day of panels, talks and masterclasses on all things related to music video. And for the second year running, the day includes a session dedicated to Cinematography, including a panel of some of the best exponents of the art of cinematography who are currently working in the medium.

Producer, sometime director, and BUG co-founder and curator Phil Tidy will chair a panel that features Patrick Meller (above), one of the UK's top DoPs working in music videos, who won the award for Best Cinematography in a Video at the UKMVAs last month for his work on the Miike Snow video for Genghis Khan, and is acclaimed for his work on videos for Drenge, Biffy Clyro, Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.

Also on the panel is James Blann, who has emerged as a leading member of the new generation of British DoPs, with his work on videos for Jamie T, Jax Jones, Savages, Two Door Cinema Club and others.

The panel also features Catherine Goldschmidt, whose work ranges from music videos (for the likes of Hezen and Kimberly Anne) to longform drama and documentary. In the past year has also co-founded an organisation just for female DoPs called Illuminatrix, to highlight the need for the greater representation of women DoPs in the hallowed craft.

The panel will discuss the role of cinematography in music video today - is it more important than ever before? Other issues on the table is the importance of music video as a crucible for developing talent, and the continuing role of film as a format in the medium of music video.

It's just part of this year's MusicVidFest - a whole day of insightful and inspiring panels and talks all about music videos - happening tomorrow, November 9th,  at the BFI Southbank in London, from 9.30am. Head to the MusicVidFest website for the full programme and to buy a delegate pass.
