Michael Holyk has joined the directors roster at A+, for music video and content representation in London.
Nottingham-born and raised, Holyk has established a reputation as a versatile director of music videos, live performance and artist documentaries, with work that includes music videos for Sam Smith, Jake Bugg, Gabrielle Aplin and Ady Suleiman, and docs for a succession of emerging and successful artists including Smith and this year's Brits' Critics Choice Award winner Jack Garratt.
His career as a director began when his college coursework went viral on YouTube. He then began making online content for BBC Radio, which included filming local Nottingham artists, most notably Jake Bugg. He went on to make early Bugg promos for Lightning Bolt and Trouble Town.
As well as moving into music videos, his live and documentary filmmaking has taken him around the world to work with, among others, MTV India. Holyk has now completed his first music video at A+, the music video and content division at Academy Films, for London band Nimmo's Unyoung for Sony Music.
"We’re delighted to have Michael join us," says Liz Kessler, head of music video at A+. "His hands on, high energy, musical approach makes him a most valuable asset to the A+ team. He brings cinematic values to his documentary work and an authentic love of music and musicians to all his videos.”
