2014 MTV Video Music Awards - the nominations
David Knight - 21st July 2014
Beyoncé is the most nominated artist at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards with eight nominations – including Video of the Year, Best Female and Best Collaboration for several tracks from her self-titled 'Video Album' – while Eminem and Iggy Azalea are the next most nominated artists in the list that was announced last Thursday (July 17th) via SnapChat, with seven nods apiece.
While Beyoncé's Drunk In Love (ft Jay Z) video directed by Hype Williams is up for Video of the Year and Best Collaboration, her video Pretty Hurts, directed by Melina Matsoukas, has three nominations in the professional categories at this year's VMAs, including Best Direction. The DANIELS-directed video for DJ Snake & Lil Jon's Turn Down For What also has three nominations in the professional categories, including Best Direction, as well as an MTV Clubland Award nomination.
Director X's video for Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX's Fancy, inspired by the movie Clueless, is the other video in the field with four VMA nominations, including Video of the Year and Best Art Direction – the first female hip-hop artist since 2005 to receive four nominations for a single video.
The other videos up for Best Direction are Eminem ft Rihanna's The Monster, directed by Rich Lee; the Terry Richardson-directed video for Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball (also nominated for Video of the Year); and OK Go's Writing's On The Wall, directed by Aaron Duffy, Damian Kulash Jr & Bob Partington.
OK Go is also nominated for the Best VFX Award, together with two videos posted by Mathematic in Paris - Disclosure's Grab You! directed by Emile Sornin (also a MTV Clubland nominee) and Jack White's Lazaretto directed by Jonas & Francois.
This year's MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday August 24th at the Forum in Inglewood, California. More information on the 2014 VMAs at VMA.mtv.com.
