Samuel Bayer to receive Outstanding Achievement Award at Camerimage

Director and cinematographer Samuel Bayer will receive the award for outstanding achievements in the field of music videos at the 21st edition of Camerimage, the international film festival of the art of cinematography, held in Bydgoczsz in Poland, which begins on November 16th. 

Samuel Bayer famously directed the seminal video for Nirvana's Smell Like Teen Spirit in 1991 - his first ever music video. He has gone on to work with The Cranberries, David Bowie, Metallica, the Rolling Stones, Marilyn Manson, Lennie Kravitz, Aerosmith, Green Day, Justin Timberlake and many other artists.

Quite apart from his work as a director, Samuel has also won global recognition for his cinematography, always lighting and photographing his own work. Among his awards are MTV Video Music Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Rock Video of the Year for Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Best Rock Video for Metallica's Until It Sleeps. His many commercial credits include ads for Chrysler (a Cannes Golden Lion winner, featuring Eminem), Packard Bell, Nike, Mountain Dew, Chrysler, Coke, Pepsi, Nissan and Lexus. He also directed the remake of Nightmare On Elm Street, and held exhibitions of his photography.

As well as receiving his outstanding achievement award at Camerimage this year, Samuel is also chair of the Jury for this year's Music Videos Competition at the festival. And he will give also meet with delegates to give the latest in Camerimage's Music Videos: The Master Class Series. Camerimage runs from this Saturday, November 16th to the 23rd.
