JLS: Eyes Wide Open 3D, the Andy Morahan-directed, Bikini-produced concert documentary of JLS's recent UK tour has exceeded all expectations by breaking into the UK cinema box office charts at number 5 following its opening weekend of release. The movie opened with £464,000 from 210 sites last weekend - behind X-Men: First Class, The Hangover Part 2, Pirates of the Carribean 4 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid - and ahead of Senna, Rio, Fast & Furious 5 and Thor. JLS: Eyes Wide Open 3D was originally intended to play in selected cinemas just for one day only in an innovative model of film distribution with JLS fans pre-booking to see these event screenings. Due to the rush to pre-book, the number of screens was then increased by distributor Omniverse Vision. Now the run of the movie has been extended - and it will be added into a further 300 screens next weekend. "No-one expected this sort of result from a concert film," says Phil Barnes, executive producer at Bikini and producer of the movie. "Omniverse have done an amazing job with this new model of film distribution, and people are saying that the 3D element of the movie really works. It makes you feel like you're there." Bikini have other projects, intended for theatrical release, currently in development, with Andy Morahan's previous concert film George Michael's Live In London still playing the cinema circuit in various countries around the world.
