David Knight - 4th Sept 2008
With lots of videos now entered over 12 separate categories - and the individual award and best international video voting lists to be announced next week - the first stage of judging for the 2008 UK Music Video Awards has begun.
The MVA Jury Members - who come from all areas of the British music video production, plus a few invited members of the press - have each been given three MVA award categories to judge. Their job now is to view the videos entered into those categories on the UK MVAs judging website administered by BEAM.tv - and then choose their favourite six videos (in no particular order) from each category.
Jury Members have until September 15th to make their choices. In order to do so, they enter their unique username and password to operate the MVA online judging system.
Most people who've been invited to be a Jury Member have accepted the invitations and been given a username and password. But if you have not yet responded to an invitation to be a Jury Member, and want to take part, please get back to Louise as soon as possible to receive your login details.
The most popular choices from each category will then go forward to the second stage of judging, when selected panels which watch the chosen videos again, discuss the work and vote to select the award winner.
The second stage of judging is scheduled to begin in the week of September 15th - invitations to be a member of those judging panels will be sent out next week.
When all the judging is complete, the nominations for all the awards at the first UK Music Video Awards will be announced in the week of September 21st.
After that, it's the big night itself: the first UK Music Video Awards, at the Odeon West End in Leicester Square, London, followed by the big aftershow party.
The 2008 UK Music Video Awards schedule is as follows:
NOW - Online judging of Best Video and Technical Achievement categories. Voting must end on September 15th
Sept 9th - Individual awards and Best International awards voting lists announced
Sept 15th - Deadline for online judging; second and final stage of judging starts
Sept 22nd - Nominations for the UK Music Video Awards announced
Oct 14th - 2008 UK Music Video Awards: the show at Odeon West End, followed by aftershow party at Orchid
